Description
Robert Half is partnering with a Des Moines insurance company to hire an Accountant in the financial reporting department. In this role, you will play a critical part in preparing and analyzing financial statements, reinsurance transactions, and related reports while ensuring compliance with statutory accounting principles. This is an excellent opportunity to advance your skills in insurance-based accounting within a collaborative and detail-oriented environment.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and review statutory-based financial statements and filings, ensuring compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles.
• Analyze and create accurate financial reports, including internal and external statements and footnotes.
• Manage reinsurance treaty settlements, including processing journal entries and handling amendments or new agreements.
• Reconcile account balances with supporting documentation and ensure accuracy in journal entries.
• Develop detailed analytical reports, investigate trends, and present findings to leadership.
• Collaborate with external auditors to fulfill audit requirements and provide necessary documentation.
• Utilize organizational knowledge of business units, chart of accounts, and processes to support financial reporting activities.
• Leverage general ledger systems and other financial tools to execute reporting tasks efficiently.
• Participate in the planning and preparation of statutory and organizational financial plans.
• Maintain comprehensive procedural documentation for assigned tasks to ensure adherence to internal controls.
Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• Experience in insurance accounting or public accounting is preferred.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work across departments effectively.
• Proven analytical and critical thinking skills with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with financial software applications.
• Knowledge of statutory and insurance-specific accounting principles is a plus.
• Understanding of insurance products and their financial implications.
