Position Summary
Sovah Health is looking for the ideal candidate who will be responsible for all administrative and patient access activities at the Advanced Wound Center Out Patient Desk. Functions in the Wound Center department to ensure the efficient management of the daily schedule. Provide a warm and courteous greeting to all patients. Maintain efficient patient flow from a business office and patent access perspective. Is responsible for all clerical functions including patient charges, scheduling of patients for the Wound Center Responsible for securing insurance and billing information. Collects co-pays and outstanding balances. Drafts and sends letters to insurance for patient predetermination for Wound Center. Create and manage patient charts and records using Meditech. File insurance claims for Wound Center.
• Performs a variety of duties to support administration of the assigned department(s).Pre-registers patients, verifies insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, and deductibles, calculates patient financial obligation and obtain and verifies the accuracy of authorization when required.
• Greets patients, obtains demographic and financial information, obtains necessary signatures and collects payment from patient.
• Assists in all phases of the scheduling, pre-registration and registration processes.
• Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
• Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
• Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
• Schedules future appointments and communicates scheduling changes with all appropriate departments and coworkers.
• Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary.
• Reviews physician’s orders for completeness and compliance requirements, i.e., covered tests, prior authorizations, and ensures forms and record completeness.
• Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.
• Calculates patient financial obligation and obtain and verifies the accuracy of authorization when required.
• Composes, types, and transcribes correspondence, forms, reports, presentation materials and other written communications.
• Receives, screens, and routes visitors and telephone calls.
• Schedules/coordinates meetings, events, appointments, etc., as needed.
• Collaborates with nurse, scheduler, nursing units, etc. and other departments to facilitate schedule and patient progression.
• Prepares and enters patient charges accurately into computerized scheduling system, as necessary.
• Enters accurate patient or case data into computerized scheduling system or into statistical reports/spreadsheets, daily or monthly, as required.
• Creates charts on admission to wound center and manages charts upon arrival to include flagging labs, radiology reports, etc.
• Orders and stocks supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville.
American Heart Association CPR Heart Saver to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Minimum Work Experience
Three years’ experience clerical/office administration support. Basic knowledge of general office procedures and general computer skills. Knowledge of collection policy and previous experience with insurance preferred.
