Familiarity with Learning Management Systems and reporting is preferred. Other duties as assigned.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Serves the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine ( SHSU - COM ) in the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine. The University is seeking qualified candidates to join SHSU - COM as full-time Clinical Faculty. The position reports to the Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine. The University is focused on improving the physician workforce in primary care and other specialties identified as a physician shortage in the State of Texas and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction with clinical learning and an osteopathic emphasis.
The Clinical Faculty is charged with the developing opportunities for community outreach for medical students which may include health fairs, clinical opportunities (such as pop-up clinics, mobile clinics, free clinics, etc.), fun runs, vaccination events, food drives, etc. The individual will assist in the organization of these events and provide clinical supervision when required. This faculty member will also lead efforts to work with other SHSU colleges to establish interprofessional education opportunities in collaboration with the SHSU - COM Curricular Administrative Team.
The clinical faculty members will assist the Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine in development of clinical content for systems courses and clerkships where needed, participate in scholarship and research in the department, provide quality patient care and foster collaboration and interdisciplinary learning. Members of the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine will be expected to participate in teaching in the systems courses, physical exam course, case-based learning sessions, clinical clerkships, procedural skills training, OSCE’s and (where appropriate) Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine hands on training. Individuals should be comfortable working in preclinical and clinical education, as well as evaluation of curriculum and students through various learning and assessment methods.
Where appropriate, the members of the department will provide patient care in the SHSU faculty practice in the SHSU Physicians clinic. However, there may be opportunities for members of the clinical faculty to be granted part-time contracts with SHSU in order to provide patient care with external clinical practices. Further, in some cases, consideration for full or part-time faculty contracts may be considered for clinicians who are no longer practicing medicine.
Please note this position is located in Conroe at the College of Osteopathic Medicine facility.
Educational Requirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):
The successful candidate will have a DO or MD degree from a College of Osteopathic or Allopathic Medicine with successful completion of residency training, current AOA or ABMS board certification or board eligibility, a current unrestricted license to practice in Texas (or eligibility to obtain a medical license in Texas).
Preference will be given to primary care physicians with training and experience in osteopathic manipulative medicine, however physicians with any degree or specialty will be considered. If a successful candidate does not possess an active license to practice medicine in Texas, the position will commence once an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas is obtained.
Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):
This position requires clinical skills and well-developed communication skills. A background in medical education is preferred, as is experience in pre-clinical and clinical teaching. Those able to teach osteopathic manipulative medicine preferred but not required. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training.
