Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Metal Fabrication and working closely with the Team Leader and Metal Fabrication team, the CNC Operator for metal fabrication is responsible for setting up and performing basic maintenance of the CNC machine, following work orders to produce parts for our units according to S&C Safety Procedures and Quality standards.
Work Term: Fall 2025 (Sept-Dec)
Work Arrangement: Onsite, 5 days per week (Mon - Fri) on the Day Shift
Duties & Responsibilities:
Set up, adjust and operate CNC machine according to work orders and specifications Responsible for set up with minor program Use manual pump trucks, cranes (over head / jib) and lift devices as required to move material and finished product(s) Monitor machine operation and perform trouble shooting tactics when necessary Ensure parts are manufactured in accordance with quality standards, target plans and verify correct run quantities Visually inspect parts after each machine cycle and perform inspections as required Optimize the running of parts to best take advantage of the machine’s operating time Filling out production boards with output for the shift as well as assisting in planning afternoon shift production Maintain cleanliness of work area and follow organizational practices Strives for continuous improvement in all aspects of the work environment Troubleshoot and resolve issues as required Other duties as assigned Perform all his duties following Health and Safety procedures, including but not limited to wear PPE, follow sanitization routines, etc.
Qualifications:
In a registered co-op program and eligible for the Fall 2025 4 Month work term Currently pursuing a post secondary education as a Mechanical Engineering Technician or related field Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment considered an asset Previous experience as a CNC Machine Operator considered an asset Ability to read and interpret blueprints Ability to use caliper, micrometer, go no-go gauges, etc. Excellent mechanical/mathematical aptitude and manual dexterity Good communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment Attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with minimal supervision Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles considered an asset
