Summary of Job Duties:This UAMS Department of Orthopaedic Primary Care Sports Medicine Assistant Professor position will be located in Central Arkansas and is a non-surgical physician specializes in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. The Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician can maximize non-operative treatment, guide appropriate referrals to physical and occupational therapies, and if necessary, expedite referral to an orthopedic/sports surgeon. They will treat patients for acute injuries (such as ankle sprains, muscle strains, knee & shoulder injuries, and fractures), overuse injuries (such as rotator cuff and other forms of tendonitis, stress fractures) and medical and injection therapies for osteoarthritis. The PCSM will treat patients to help them improve performance, enhance overall health, prevent injury and maintain their physical activity throughout their lives.
Qualifications:Valid state medical license as MD or DOHas obtained one year of additional fellowship training in Sports Medicine.Current BC/BE in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation

Deliver expert care in sports medicine, with advanced training in the evaluation and management of both musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal conditions.
Treat patients for a range of issues including concussions, head injuries, chronic and acute illnesses (e.g., asthma, diabetes, mononucleosis), and performance-related concerns.
Provide guidance on nutrition, supplements, and ergogenic aids.
Prescribe exercise plans for patients seeking to improve general fitness.
Make informed “return-to-play” decisions for injured or ill athletes.
Recommend safe and effective strength training and conditioning practices.
Promote healthy lifestyle choices and preventive care.
Provide both outpatient and hospital consultation services as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of symptoms, medications, treatment plans, and patient encounters.
Maintain continuing medical education (CME) requirements per board specifications.
Contribute to the department’s mission by embracing opportunities to expand services, take initiative, and support overall team success.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and institutional goals.
