Associate Technical Director - Solar PV

Role description:

Provide professional leadership primarily in Solar PV Energy projects, particularly large grid scale and connected installations, at a senior management level, establishing and consolidating relationships with clients, taking ownership for the delivery of the region’s technical capability, supporting the delivery of projects or specialised components of projects  Support the development of Arcadis capability in Onshore Renewable Energy and build and maintain a professional reputation as an individual and for Arcadis  Take a leadership role with the project team, providing direction and leading by example where appropriate  Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets  Manage all aspects of the client relationship so that delivery meets or exceeds client expectations  Working to ensure maximum client satisfaction, championing client care and proactively working with the client  Promote both the regional and global culture of the business  To provide temporary embedded support to key clients as required. 

Role accountabilities:

Lead by example to promote continual improvement in SHE performance across the business  Build relationships with clients to identify and realise business opportunities and to ensure that client expectations and Arcadis’ commercial objectives are met or exceeded  Engage with and champions the involvement and inclusion of Arcadis Global Design resources, facilitating two-way feedback on the performance of project teams using Arcadis Global Design resources  Provide technical leadership at a subject level  Evaluate technical competence of staff proposed for projects and identify specific training and mentoring needs  Take technical line management responsibility for the development and performance management of team members to support the delivery of Arcadis’ business  Supports recruitment process and are personally involved in the selection process of Engineering staff at all levels within your team.  Lead the technical delivery of complex projects ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues  Ensure that local staff understand the benefits of their utilisation as team resources  Lead on the design of innovative engineering solutions for clients that resolve complex problems  Coach and mentor engineering professionals to support the development of Arcadis’ talent pool  Through an effective review process, oversee the delivery of projects to time, meeting both quality and budgetary targets, whilst striving to exceed client expectations  Perform independent technical review for complex and/or major projects  Encourage innovative and entrepreneurial thinking amongst team members  Promote and market all facets of the company’s services during client interfaces  Manage technical client relationships with key clients and plays a major role in selling  Promote effective and efficient bid management  Provide input into specific technical aspects of individual bids to support the production of high-quality winning pursuits  Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile at a National level (e.g. conference presentations, publications and participation in technical committees)  Maintain records of Continuing Professional Development and are able to make these available for audit by their professional institution 

Qualifications & Experience:

Significant knowledge and track record in delivery of grid scale Solar PV projects within an Engineering role  Significant knowledge and track record in the development of the GB transmission and distribution systems and their challenges  Significant knowledge and track record of supporting clients in grid access and application matters  Demonstrable experience in the delivery of onshore renewable energy projects and their associated grid connections  Detailed understanding of integrating Solar PV installations into the national grid. Extensive knowledge of the associated plant and equipment for Solar PV installations, and their delivery and implementation  Detailed understanding of substation design, from concept to completion, for MV and HV substations in the UK  Can identify the limits of both their personal knowledge and skills the limits of their team's skill and knowledge  Exercise sound holistic independent judgement and take responsibility.  Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct operated by professional institution  Plan, carry out and record CPD and encourage others  Engage with activities promoted by professional institution  Demonstrate appropriate professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment  Exercise responsibilities in an ethical manner  Able to communicate well with others at all levels including effective use of English orally and in writing  Discuss ideas and plan competently and with confidence  Effective personal and social skills  Able to manage diversity issues  Able to communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical colleagues including effective use of English verbally and in writing  Lead continuous improvement in "Safe by Design"  Sound knowledge of legislation, hazards and safe systems of work  Understand how to manage health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility  Lead continuous improvement in health, safety and welfare  Experienced in leading, and working with, people from varied discipline, backgrounds and cultures  Manage teams and develop staff to meet changing technical and managerial needs  Manage quality processes  Plan, direct and control tasks, people and resources.  Lead teams and develop staff to meet changing technical and managerial needs  Demonstrate continuous improvement through quality management  Experience of managing business relationships at executive level  Strong consulting skills including project management and client relationship management at senior management level  Maintain and extend a sound theoretical approach to the application of technology in engineering practice  Ability to use a sound evidence-based approach to problem solving and be able to contribute to continuous improvement  Can maintain and extend a sound theoretical approach in enabling the introduction and exploitation of new and advancing technology  Can engage in the creative and innovative development of engineering technology and continuous improvement systems  Have extensive consulting experience on large scale/highly complex projects  Able to identify, review and select techniques, procedures and methods to undertake engineering tasks  Can contribute to the design and development of engineering solutions  Implement design solutions and contribute to their evaluation.  Conduct appropriate research, relative to design and appreciate its relevance within own area of responsibility  Undertake the design and development of engineering solutions and evaluate their effectiveness  Implement or construct design solutions and evaluate their effectiveness  Have a thorough understanding of Arcadis service lines and demonstrated capability to integrate these into a coherent programme  Understands market backed pricing for a wide range of services in specialist discipline  Use sound knowledge of statutory and commercial frameworks within own area of responsibility and have an appreciation of other commercial arrangements  Demonstrate sound judgement on statutory, contractual and commercial issues in relation to own area of responsibility  Sound knowledge of sustainable development best practice  Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development  Have a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline  Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent  Previous relevant experience including leadership of the development and implementation of engineering solutions  Lead continuous improvement in sustainable development
