Benefits Accountant
Description We are looking for a Benefits Accountant to join our team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This contract to hire position involves managing accounting functions related to employee benefit programs, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsibilities: • Prepare accurate financial reports and analyze data related to employee benefits for presentation to senior management. • Reconcile monthly benefit-related general ledger accounts and verify calculations for group insurance premium statements. • Assist with the annual actuarial valuation process for pension plans, including data collection and reconciliation. • Coordinate the preparation and filing of government reports, such as Form 5500, for pension, 401(k), and welfare plans. • Oversee the administration of restricted stock and stock option awards, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and compliance with tax and accounting standards. • Conduct accounting for restricted stock awards, including monitoring forfeiture assumptions and compiling data for financial disclosures. • Identify and recommend updates to benefit-related policies and procedures in response to changes in accounting rules. • Collaborate on external audits for employee benefit plans, ensuring timely and accurate completion. • Provide support for budget preparation and assist in special projects as needed. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • A minimum of 5 years of experience in benefits accounting or a similar role. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Strong knowledge of general ledger processes, journal entries, and account reconciliation. • Experience with benefits administration, including pension and 401(k) plans. • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. • Familiarity with compensation, payroll, and benefit-related regulations is preferred.
