Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Central Service Technician - Full Time, Evenings - Sterile Processing Department - Full-Time - Monda.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for Decontamination, Assembly, High level disinfection and Sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. Disinfects, Inventories and stocks Crash Carts. Delivers surgical Instruments, Supplies and equipment as necessary to meet patient needs. Disinfects Mobile patient equipment. Stocks and maintains Par levels of mobile patient equipment on Nursing units. Maintains work environment, stocking consumable goods following infection control and safety guidelines. Answers telephones, handles front line customer service.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for Surgical Instruments, Instrument Quality, processing & preparation. Responsible for Decontamination of Medical equipment, Devices and instrumentation Responsible for Sterilization of Surgical Instruments and Devices Responsible for the High-level Disinfection process of Scopes and medical devices Responsible for Crash Cart stocking, logistics and Disinfection Demonstrates knowledge of Sterilization aseptic handling and aseptic procedures Demonstrates knowledge of Surgical and Medical supplies. Performs and documents quality assurance in Assembly, Sterilization, Decontamination and High-level Disinfection Basic Computer skills able to navigate and operate our department system SPM Performs other duties as assigned.1.Surgical Instrument management and logistics
Can Identify instruments by name and designCan Identify a single use instrument versus a reusable instrumentCan identify non functioning, broken and non-compliant instruments Can perform quality assurance and tests for instrument integrityUnderstands Spalding classification and how to correct if clean and solid is mixedTransports sterile instruments and stores in storage locations capturing locations in inventory operating systemTransports Soiled instruments following hospital guidelines containing contaminants and using correct containers
2.Decontamination of Instruments and Devices
Receives and sorts used medical devices & Instruments Identifying the type of device, checking for damage, and separating items based on Manufacture instructions for use cleaning instructions Disassembles instruments and devices following manufacture instructions to ensure proper cleaning of all surfacesOperates washers according to manufacture guidelines Follows organizational guidelines for manual cleaning Wears appropriate PPE and follows infection control guidelines. Follows universal precaution standardsDocuments all chemicals in accordance with hospital policy3. High Level disinfection of Instruments and Devices
Can Identify what semi-critical & critical devices are and the correct processing method for eachWears appropriate PPE and follows infection control guidelines and standards High level disinfects endoscopes and accessories handling logistics and storageDisinfects mobile patient equipment handles logistics and storage on the nursing unitsSets up, maintains and operates washers and Automated Endoscope preprocessors in accordance with manufacture guidelinesDocuments process in the instrument inventory operating system4.Crash Carts
Stocks crash carts accurately to pick lists for each drawerFollows the ordering process for needed suppliesDocuments quantity of each item accurately capturing the earliest expiration date Disinfects cart between uses prior to stockingHandles logistics of clean and soiled carts when neededDocuments lock numbers in conjunction with Pharmacy
5. Sterilization Steam and Low Temperature
Labels trays and peel pouches for sterilization in accordance with hospital policy.
Monitors all physical and mechanical indicators necessary to meet sterilization parameters.
Monitors and processes biological indicators and logs daily testing information accurately.
Documents sterilizer load parameters accurately in accordance to hospital policyOperates Sterilizers according to manufacture guidelines.Load sterilizer in accordance with established guidelines to ensure that steam contacts all necessary surfaces of devices.
6. Quality Assurance and Documentation
Recognizes and adheres to Medical Center and departmental infection control policies and procedures.Follows Aseptic procedures in all areas Participates in continuous quality improvement processDocuments all Sterilization parameters according to policyDocuments all HLD parameters according to policyFills out all supply requisitions accurately following organization standardsCan document processes and testing results in inventory operating systemMinimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certification from the Certification for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) Certified Or Registered Central Service Technician (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST),
Provisional certification is acceptable. 400 hours of on-hands training will need to be achieved prior to the expiration of the provisional certification.
