What we want
Join our team at University Health Services as a Certified Pharmacy Technician II! In this role, you will perform technical duties associated with the preparation of prescription orders and assist in the planning and execution of administrative and purchasing activities for the Pharmacy.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.

Training/Compliance: The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with the A&M System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual’s employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
Other: This full-time position has a 9-month annual work period of August 16 - May15.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Three years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting
Required Licenses and Certifications:
+ Texas State Board of Pharmacy - Registered Pharmacy Technician
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
+ Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in related field
+ Five years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting
+ Related experience in a college health pharmacy setting
+ Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
+ BLS certification
Responsibilities
+ Pharmacy Technician: Receives prescription or refill requests and verifies that information is complete and accurate. Performs the technical duties associated with preparing and filling a prescription order. Obtains and documents information required to be maintained in patient medication records. Assists customers by phone and in person by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to a pharmacist for medication information. Maintains the general appearance of the pharmacy. Researches and compares pricing and availability of specialty over-the-counter and prescription medications.
+ Purchasing: Coordinates and oversees purchasing and receiving activities for the Pharmacy. Applies and interprets purchasing policies and procedures and assists in developing and implementing new policies and procedures. Enters requisitions in AggieBuy, places orders directly with vendors, ensures correct items are received, and reviews invoices for the Chief Pharmacist. Works with the Business Office to ensure timely payment of invoices, coordinate vendor credits, and resolve complex purchasing issues. Develops and maintains working relationships with various pharmaceutical vendors.
+ Inventory: Assists in maintaining inventory. Routinely checks inventory for overstocked items and coordinates returns to the vendor for credit. Assists in receiving and stocking merchandise. Reviews expiration dates for all prescription and over-the-counter stock and assists in processing outdated medications for disposition. Updates lot numbers. Participates in biannual physical inventory. Works with the Chief Pharmacist to insure random narcotic inventories. Works with the Chief Pharmacist on product selection. Reviews and updates inventory usage reports.
+ Administrative: Provides administrative support for pharmacy operations. Participates in the planning and execution of administrative operations for the pharmacy and makes recommendations for process improvements. Works with the Chief Pharmacist to set pricing, including special pricing for certain items to be published to providers each semester. Reviews invoices for the Chief Pharmacist and coordinates the maintenance of files and records. Assists in coordinating schedules for student workers and providing training to student workers and support staff.
