Compliance and Privacy Specialist

Position Summary

The Compliance and Privacy Specialist is responsible for managing the initial intake and review of all reported privacy and compliance inquiries, complaints, and/or incidents.  This position will respond to inquiries/incidents as well as track, monitor and document responses through incident closure; is responsible for researching and monitoring any changes in applicable laws, rules and regulations, and providing updates and summaries for the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and other stakeholders as needed.  The position also assists the CCO in the development of annual work plans and reporting performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the compliance and privacy programs.  This position supports and will be cross-trained in Benefits and HRIS.  This is a hybrid position, which will require at least 2-3 days per week in the office.

Primary Position Responsibilities

Manage Privacy and Compliance Intake and Investigations: Complete projects and initiatives associated with the annual compliance work plan and annual privacy plan; oversee the intake, review, investigation and response to reported privacy and compliance inquiries, complaints, and incidents.  Conduct investigations, recommend appropriate actions, and track through closure while keeping the Chief Compliance Officer informed. Policy Management and Regulatory Monitoring: Maintain and update compliance and privacy policies, coordinate periodic reviews with subject-matter experts, draft new policies and procedures, and communicate changes.  Monitor changes in laws and regulations and summarize relevant updates. Audit and Risk Mitigation Support: Participate in routine business audits to identify compliance and privacy risks, and support remediation efforts.  Use incident trends to develop monitoring programs and action plans that address gaps and mitigate risk. Training and Education: Design, develop and deliver specialized compliance and privacy training for targeted audiences across the organization. Compliance Reporting and Documentation: Prepare reports and summaries related to compliance activities, including those aligned with the annual compliance and privacy plans.  Implements, conducts, and oversees staff compliance audits for mandatory training and work requirements, such as education and Occupational Health Services requirements.  This includes overseeing the disciplinary action process for non-compliance. Annual Disclosures and Other Compliance Duties: Manage the annual Conflicts of Interest Disclosure process for key personnel and perform other compliance-related duties as assigned. Perform Other Duties as Assigned: this includes, but is not limited to, Benefits and HRIS functions.

Minimum Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare or related field

Preferred: Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare or related field

 

Minimum Years of Experience

Required: Minimum of three years of experience in general compliance, privacy, health information management, finance, healthcare administration or related field.

License, Registry or Certification

Required: None

Preferred: Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC, CHC-F, CHRC and/or CCEP), or other advanced degree strongly preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities

Required: 

Proven experience working in a highly confidential environment, with an ability to work analytically. Critical thinking, reasoning, and data analytics skills. Self-starter, ability to organize and manage time effectively to complete tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases). Ability to research regulatory requirements; excellent organizational skills, with high attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver presentations to various audiences. Comfortable working with people at all levels of an organization. Working knowledge of healthcare compliance and privacy regulations and reporting requirements. Experience supporting organizational information security framework.
