Support Staff Reports To: Hospital Manager or Medical Director
Shift: Varies by location: Day/Night/PT/FT - Nights , Weekends and Holidays
General Purpose of Job: Assist DVM and hospital staff by providing direct medical care to patients including patient treatment, assist with surgical procedures, maintain clean work environment, and support to all other animal care functions and hospital operations.
Essential Functions: 1. Perform direct medical care for patients according to prescribed treatment plan. 2. Assist DVM with procedures including but not limited to anesthesia, surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory and pharmacy activities. 3. Support DVM and hospital staff as needed to restrain and to lift animals for direct care. 4. Ensure all patients are identified including documentation on the hospital entry day sheet, ID collar and cage card. 5. Monitor patient and maintain charts/records to document medical status. 6. Organize daily duties and medical/surgical procedures for efficient utilization of staff. 7. Maintain and update charges for medical/surgical procedures, medications and other service fees. 8. Maintain log books involving radiology, surgery, anesthesia, laboratory, controlled substances and others required record keeping. 9. Provide education to client regarding medical procedures, medication regimens, follow-up care, diets and other general animal care. 10. Maintain patient hygiene including bathing, changing bedding, cleaning and sanitizing kennel and cages. 11. Feed and maintain water for patients as needed. 12. Work independently in order to provide ongoing patient care. 13. Work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. 14. Adhere to all company safety and animal health care policies.
Marginal Functions: 1. Support hospital as needed including cleaning facilities indoors and outdoors. 2. Perform all other duties as directed. Education/Experience/License/Certifications: College or college-equivalent education as required in becoming a Licensed or Certified Veterinary Technician.
