Cardiology Nurse Practitioner in collaborative practice with physician(s) to provide direct health care services to patients of the DCH Cardiology Clinic.  Incumbent is responsible for evaluations to patients based on pre-established guidelines and in collaboration with the physician, entering orders, and performing medical procedures under the direction and supervision of the physicians. 

Responsibilities

 

Provides assessment and diagnostic services in both the inpatient and outpatient setting to patients with cardiovascular conditions. Determines treatment plan(s) in collaboration with the supervising physician.Services provided include diagnosis and treatment of patient illness, performing H&P’s and ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests as indicated, and providing follow up care as needed. Diagnose and treat common cardiovascular conditions including but not limited to hypertension, heart failure, and arrhythmias. Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner in the patient’s medical record. Responds to daily telephone requests from patients.  Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications in accordance ABN Scope of Practice and the collaborating agreement and treatment protocol established by the supervising physician.  Educate patients and caregivers on lifestyle changes, risk factors, and medications to improve cardiovascular health. When indicated, coordinates referral of patients to different levels of care. Provides leadership to clinic support team members by articulating expected standards of care and training to team members on cardiovascular conditions and treatments. Responsible for taking occasional night and weekend call coverage within practice.   Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of practice management guidelines and participates in performance improvement quality initiatives. Supports adherence to regulatory guidelines ascribed by State and Federal regulators.

Qualifications

 

Master’s or higher degree in nursing and a graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner programCurrent Certified AL Registered Nurse Practitioner Licensure in good standing with Alabama Board of NursingPrior experience cardiology or training in a cardiology specialty requiredExcellent verbal communication skills to interact with patients, coworkers and other visitors. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Physical: Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Is able to push stretcher/wheelchair with average adult patient. Is able to do frequent stooping and on occasion crouching, crawling or kneeling. Ability to reach reasonable distances in any direction. Ability to run in emergency situations. Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner. Must have ability to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape and size with fingertips.

Physical presence onsite is essential.  Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

Environmental:  Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazardous materials and/or cleaning solutions. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.

 

Psychological:  Includes demonstrating leadership skills, delegating to team members, addressing conflict, communicating with all types of personalities, and being responsible for outcomes/results.

Physical presence onsite is essential.
