Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, specifically within the Laborer and Custodial Branch of the Senate Office Buildings. The Senate Office Buildings are looking for an energetic and reliable Custodial Worker Leader. This individual will be responsible for providing leadership and motivating the team to achieve their goals and objectives. Responsibilities This is an essential employee position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies and inclement weather situations. The work schedule may occasionally require mandatory overtime on holidays and weekends. Leader Responsibilities: Sets the pace for work, provides leadership and guidance, and performs and checks cleaning tasks in an assigned group of rooms and public areas. Monitors, reports, and reviews completed work to ensure that the supervisor’s instructions regarding work priorities, deadlines, and standards are met. Provides feedback to supervisors on employee performance, team issues or problems, and makes recommendations for awards and performance appraisals. Obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for assigned tasks. Demonstrates proper work procedures, checks on work in progress, and addresses questions from both the supervisor and workers. Orders cleaning supplies from IMD as needed and restocks supply cabinets on a daily basis. Cleans and organizes the supply room regularly. Custodial Responsibilities: Operates and controls heavy-powered cleaning equipment such as wall washers, carpet cleaning machines, and buffing machines. Cleans and adjusts the equipment as needed and performs minor maintenance tasks, including cleaning, oiling, and changing brushes, buffer discs, and rollers. Carries out cleaning duties in various locations, including offices, public corridors, stairways, closets, restrooms, restaurant facilities, machine rooms, and storage areas. Cleans and maintains floors, walls, and ceilings, working on a variety of surfaces such as bronze, concrete, glass, linoleum, marble, plastic, porcelain, sandstone, stainless steel, tile, and wood. Utilizes a range of cleaning solutions to remove marks and stains and applies specialized solutions for cleaning statuary and sculptural ornamentation. Prepare areas for cleaning by moving heavy furniture and any other necessary items. Replenishes supplies, including toilet tissue, towels, soap, and paper towels, as needed. Collects and sorts recyclable materials, disposes of wet waste, and relines wet waste containers. Cleans recycling containers as well. Follow all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
