**Description:**
1.0 FTE, Mon-Fri, 8:30-5:00 pm. No weekends. No Holidays.
+ Follows established procedures to prepare, process and screen cytology specimens in a timely and accurate manner. The cytotechnologist has abnormal pap and non-gynecology smears confirmed by the pathologist. Reports cytology results in compliance with hospital, state and federal regulations and standards.
+ **Education** Minimum: Bachelor’s degree with one year of cytology training at an accredited institutionPreferred: **Credentials/Licensure** Minimum: ASCP certification or eligible. Must be certified within one year of hire or promotion.Preferred: **Related Experience** Minimum:Preferred: One year hospital lab experience **Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** Minimum: Must be able to operate cytology stainer, microscope, centrifuge and biological safety hood. This position must be able to screen pap smears using the Bethesda scoring method.Preferred: Computer skills, customer service skills, troubleshooting skills **Computer Competency** Shows how to use (through a competency assessment) a standard desktop and windows based computer system, including a basic understanding of email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job. **Physical/Mental** Minimum: Position requires walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting of objects 20 pounds or less. Exposure to infectious disease and hazardous chemicals. All clinical laboratory testing requires concentration and attention to detail. Position requires 20 – 50% of the day be spent on computer data entry. Performs all cytology testing and procedures. Operates all cytology equipment: cytology stainer, microscope, centrifuge and biological safety hood. Performs special staining and instrument trouble-shooting. Screens pap smears with the Bethesda scoring method Conducts analytical functions as calculating, weighing and correlating of information. Able to multi-task under a volume based work environment. Able to organize and prioritize work to meet customer needs. Must be a team player, able to flex out and help with completing work as soon as possible. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills, to patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff. Accurately articulates clinical knowledge and experience to assist doctors and nurses in their role. Demonstrates good customer service skills. Performs other duties as assigned.
