How will you make an impact in this role?

This position is within the Independent Compliance Testing (ICT) team, which performs 2nd line of defense testing across American Express products and portfolio segments. ICT conducts risk-based Compliance Reviews to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and policy impacting diverse American Express products and services. ICT is also responsible for oversight of all regulatory business self testing (RBST) in the US, and for maintaining the company procedure around Compliance Smart Monitoring.

The successful candidate will use data analytics methodologies to deliver accurate and consistent results. This role requires analytics/data science skills and compliance risk management skills. The candidate will be responsible for collaborating with review teams to enable ICT to perform transactional testing and analysis of compliance risk.

This role ultimately supports the annual ICT testing plan and will be responsible for providing analytical expertise to enable ICT to fulfill our Compliance Risk Management Program duties

Responsibilities:

Translate Compliance risks, business process and supporting data into analytic requirements and partner with colleagues to build effective analytics and insights Responsible for multiple simultaneous analytics projects of all sizes and complexity across multiple business areas within and outside of local region, in unfamiliar areas Apply advanced analytic and modeling techniques to draw insights essential to driving compliance initiatives Writing, debugging and compiling code in multiple big data environments and not limited to SQL, Python/Pyspark, Apache Spark, etc. Create and update documentation of team best practices and standards as needed Develop relationships in a complex matrixed structure, reporting up to multiple team leads, and ensuring a consistent collaboration with risk, compliance, and business partners


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science or similar quantitative field Minimum 3 to 5 years’ of experience with data and analytics (open to 2 years experience, but must be able to demonstrate experience working in data and analytics) Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery interface Demonstrated proficiency with Hive/HQL, Python, Spark, and Jupyter notebooks Excellent communication skills.  Be comfortable and clear with communication and presenting to all levels of colleagues Demonstrated proficiency using advanced features of MS Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Outlook and Sharepoint Excellent organization, prioritization and collaboration skills The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter able to operate on multiple fronts with careful attention to detail Be self-motivated, dependable, adaptable and detail-oriented with a proven ability to work independently or within a team environment as required Data-driven mindset and experience in the manipulation, assessment, interpretation, and presentation of data to support a conclusion Ability to break down a complex problem into components and solve them by using data analysis, process knowledge and risk/control knowledge Communicate data analyses, issues and control recommendations with transparency and integrity


Preferred Qualifications:

Compliance testing experience in a financial institution/ experience working for US Accounting Firm / major auditing firms Familiarity with US Financial Regulations Expertise in utilizing strong communication skills (written and verbal) to present technical topics to audiences of diverse backgrounds Experience and proficiency with creating dashboards, status reports, and project management documents Have a demonstrated ability to think outside norms and use strong analytical skills to solve problems The ability to explore new and unfamiliar datasets and deduce patterns and comprehension Experience leading colleagues through change, whether direct reports or peers Strong demonstration of leadership competencies Possess a strong understanding of bank systems and processes, and strong computer knowledge Demonstrate excellent MS Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint skills CRCM, CIA, CAMS, CPA or relevant compliance and professional designations/certifications
