Works with each Medical Director and physician staff to assure the delivery of state of the art clinical care. Operationalizes the core RGHS values by developing and sustaining an environment which supports excellence in clinical practice and the care of the patients in all settings. Facilitates both clinical education and clinical investigation to advance the art and science of professional nursing practices. Promotes the development of nurse professionals, technicians and support staff. Ensures consistency in the implementation of the philosophy of nursing and nursing standards of care. Facilities the identification of quality indicators that are most pertinent to the unit’s patient care goals. • Consults with patients and families through clinical nurse requests direct family request and/or direct assessment of patient/family response to nursing care. o Continuously reevaluates the effectiveness of the department’s clinical program. Makes changes as indicated. • Promotes collaboration with medical and administrative colleagues in establishing patient care goals. • Facilitates joint planning with own staff, peers, and colleagues to develop programs to improve patient care and/or meet the needs of changing patient populations. • Role models and assists clinical nurses to problem solve with medical staff and to establish mutual goals for individual patients. • Participates in the house-staff training program as appropriate for the clinical area. • Ensures that the philosophy, standards and policies of the RGHS affiliates are translated into action on the dialysis units. • Assures there is a unit resource available to clinical nursing staff and others involved in the delivery of patient care. • In collaboration with CNO and peers, holds decision-making authority for all department programs and activities. • Collaborates in establishing expectations for other departments in relation to the services needed. • Facilitates the experience of and ensures understanding and adherence to unit standards • Allocates human and material resources to achieve clinical care goals. • Develops the long-term staffing pattern, personnel complement needs and recruitment plan for unit. Submits accompanying data and rationale to support these recommendations to the respective Chief Patient Care Executive and Vice President Patient Care Services. • Prepares, monitors, and maintains approved salary and wage budget, supply and expense operating budget and capital equipment budget in conjunction with respective Chief Patient Care Executive and Medical Director. • Utilizes clinical knowledge and information to articulate the activities of the unit in relation to the allocation of resources. • Is knowledgeable about issues in health care economics that directly or indirectly affect cost/quality assessment on the patient units. • Selects and develops staff to meet patient care goals. • Assumes responsibility for the selection of staff with authority to hire, evaluate, counsel or terminate as necessary. • Provides guidance to clinical nurses in identifying developmental needs and strategies that foster effective problem solving, collaboration, consultation, sound clinical judgment, and leadership. • Assures the development of programs and provides support for all staff, novice to expert, to learn the skills required for their role and for their continued professional development. • Assists staff to integrate their professional goals with those of the institution. • Supports and participates in educational and research programs of the RGHS affiliates. • Participates in the planning of formal and informal educational programs to assist nursing staff to meet development needs. • Supports nursing research to promote clinical knowledge development and research-based clinical practice. • Participates in both investigations to evaluate management practice and educational activities to strengthen management practice. • Keeps informed bout current research in nursing and health care in order to promote a spirit of inquiry concerning existing nursing practice and the development and testing of new approaches to nursing care. • Demonstrates leadership and influences other in both the internal and external environments to promote optimal care to individual patients and optimal health care services to the public. • Participates on committees, task forces, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental forums that are concerned with patient care and nursing practice. • Represents unit within the RGHS affiliates. • Participates in community, state, national, and/or professional organizations concerned with nursing and health care. • Pursues a continuing program of self-development in order to maintain, strengthen and broaden own concepts, philosophy and abilities. • Accepts responsibility for self-development to remain cognizant of current trends and new methods within the nursing profession and the health care environment. • Utilizes the Chief Patient Care Executive and Vice President Patient Care Services as a resource to identify needs and seeks direction for self-development activities. • Competencies – All Positions • Customer Services • Ensures that commitments to customers are met; follows up on requests and communicates with customers in a timely manner. • Looks for ways to add customer value by improving his/her own process. • Generates confidence that customer needs are given highest priority. • Competencies – All Positions • Quality Orientation • Assists in the design of effective approaches to completing tasks/projects. • Finds and corrects root causes of problems. • Continuously develops and improves key work processes. • Identifies potential cost savings improvements and suggest possible means of implementation. • Competencies – All Positions • Communication • Provides information to customers and team members quickly and accurately • Demonstrates an ability to express self in all applicable areas of communication. • Competencies – All Positions • Team Participation • Works as part of the team and contributes to the success of the team. • Works with other departments to foster effective working relationships. • Competencies – All Positions • Self Management and Organization • Works on most important activities first when faced with competing priorities. • Knows how and when to seek help. • Competencies – All Positions • Personal Development • Development personal objectives which contribute to improved performance. • Has made progress in achievement of personal development plan goals. • Performs other duties as directed. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. • Minimum 2 years clinical experience, including leadership experience such as Charge Nurse Emergency Division. • Minimum 3 years nursing experience. • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of New York. • Strong analytical and communication skills • Able to deal well with people, to problem solve, to appropriately confront issues, to motivate others as individuals and as a group, and to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in Nursing Administration preferred. •2 years of clinical experience in emergency nursing preferred. EDUCATION: BS: Nursing (Required) LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting. PAY RANGE: $110,000.00 - $145,000.00 CITY: Rochester POSTAL CODE: 14621 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
