**JOB FUNCTION:** Operate and maintain boilers, on scheduled rotational shifts. This position is also the Watch Chiefs First Assistant.
**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Operate and maintain boilers, incinerators, steam stations, air handling units, and associated equipment.
+ Make periodic tours of assigned equipment and systems within headquarters compound, recording required data.
+ Monitor water treatment program for Central Plant.
+ Monitor and execute the Lock-out/Tag-out program.
+ Report all faults, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences to the Watch Chief.
+ Respond to emergencies on assigned equipment, performing all tasks necessary for the protection of property and personnel.
+ Assume all responsibilities and duties of Second Operator as required.
+ Assume all responsibilities of HVAC Grade I as assigned by Chief Engineer on maintenance days.
+ Direct Second Operator when authorized by Watch Chief.
+ Perform other job-related work as required.
+ Monitor and operate assigned control systems.
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Must possess a Journeyman HVAC license, or Maryland Grade I Stationery Engineer License, or DC 3rd steam boiler engineer license or equivalent.
+ Must possess universal CFC certification.
+ Able to read and interpret blueprints.
+ Working knowledge of piping systems.
+ Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
+ Must work scheduled rotational shifts, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.
**EXPERIENCE:** Four years’ experience in commercial/industrial operations.
**EDUCATION:** High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Working knowledge of HVAC systems.
+ Ability to write correspondence.
+ Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
+ Have basic computer skills.
**SECURITY:** Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery/power tools and motor vehicles. Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting, and carrying materials throughout the facility. Workplace conditions necessitate following strict safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Work tasks requiring the incumbent to lift weight more than 50 pounds requires two or more persons.

**EMERGENCY CONDITIONS:** In emergency conditions, provided no qualified electricians are available, operate and position electrical (480 volts or below) equipment as required to restore/remove essential equipment to/from service in a timely manner. An emergency consists of an event where immediate action is necessary in order to prevent loss of a system or equipment function or critical equipment redundancy. Examples include restoring AHUs during a TPF or resetting power equipment which supplies critical loads following a trip of any kind so as to minimize downtime.

Decisions on clearance requirements for positions will ultimately be decided by the customer based on access and requirements.
