**Position Summary:**
Under the direction of the Facilities & Plant Operations Director, the Safety and Environmental Health Leader shall assist in ensuring a safe and healthy environment of care for patients, employees, volunteers and visitors for Mercy Health Grand Rapids. Primary responsibility include environmental regulatory compliance for MHSM, serves as the Safety Officer at Mercy Health Grand Rapids and provides system guidance to the safety programs at Mercy Health Grand Rapids for the Joint Commission Environment of Care and Life safety Standards.
**What the EOC Lead will need:**
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Preferred: Member of ASHE, Certified Healthcare Safety Professional.
+ Two to four years progressive related work experience:
+ The Joint Commission requirements in Life Safety and Environment of Care, experience with life safety code, life safety equipment, accreditation with EOC, etc.
**What the EOC Lead will do:**
+ Identifies opportunities and assists in the development of programs and initiatives to: eliminate environmental hazards, reduce the environmental impact of health system buildings and operations, and improve the level of environmental safety features for the facilities within MHSM.
+ Responsible for facility based occupational safety and health regulations.
+ Participates in Indoor Air Quality investigations workplace hazard assessments and serves as primary contact for Industrial Hygiene investigations and liaison to departmental management and employees over workplace hazards.
+ Participates on facility design assessments to assure safety regulatory compliance and evaluate potential occupational safety issues, work processes, ergonomic factors and any engineered safety solutions.
+ Serves as the Safety Leader for MHSM and provides assistance and guidance to the MHSM safety programs to assure program consistency.
+ Works closely with individuals and departments to assure compliance with The Joint Commission Standards addressing the seven functional areas of safety under the Environment of Care including Management Plans, data collection and indicators, Performance improvement initiatives, Annual Evaluations and Board Report.
+ Assures and assists in the development of organizational policy and procedure that supports a safe and healing Environment of Care.
