Job Description
As an Environmental Field Technician, you will operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas migration control and recovery systems, providing long-term post-closure care at closed landfill sites. You may also work with other environmental pollution control systems, such as Vapor Extraction Systems (VES) and Ground Water Pump and Treat (GWP&T). This role requires professionalism, productivity, and safety as you report to a Manager-level supervisor. The position is based in the Denver, CO area.
ResponsibilitiesSample various test locations, including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, and pumps.Record and analyze data, adjusting gas flow rates from wells, headers, and blowers based on data review and consultation.Operate and maintain analytical equipment, ensuring proper calibration.Maintain detailed field logs documenting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions.Report and consult with supervisors regarding field conditions and test results.Implement and perform routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance to keep systems operational and compliant.Interact with, supervise, and manage vendors and subcontractors involved in system operations.Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings, ensuring compliance with standards.Perform surface emission monitoring using air-monitoring instruments.Utilize tools such as ladders, saws, and generators for gas well piping repairs.May operate backhoes or forklifts for non-routine repairs.Lift manhole covers and enter sumps or vaults for well measurements or adjustments.Repair leachate or condensate pumps and manage their installation.Complete site checklists and inform supervisors of changes or concerns.Participate in Health and Safety meetings and training.Prepare daily logs of site work performed.Actively participate in the SAFE process by making observations and assisting in the development of health and safety plans.Essential Skills2+ years of experience in civil construction or earthwork.Experience in Quality Control or Inspection work is preferred.Proficiency in Excel and Word.Willingness to work in the field 100% of the time and work long hours (10-11 hour days) during the summer.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrior QC/Inspection experience on construction projects (civil).Ability to travel.Experience in geosynthetics installation (e.g., High Density Polyethylene Geomembrane).Landfill construction oversight experience.Surveying experience is a plus.Soils Testing experience, including Nuclear Density Testing and geotechnical sample collection, is a plus.Work Environment
You will work 100% in the field at solid waste landfill sites, with remote work possible when not on-site. The role involves working on projects across the Midwest, typically lasting 2-6 months, with most weekends at home. The work environment is laid-back, with 10-11 hour days from Monday to Friday during the summer. Weekend work is preferred if possible.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.
