Overview
The Fire Inspector supports the Fire Prevention Program at Ascension Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF), performing critical duties to prevent, identify, and mitigate fire hazards and ensure code compliance across the installation. This position ensures facilities, personnel, and operations meet applicable fire safety standards and contractual requirements. The Fire Inspector contributes to life safety by conducting facility inspections, reviewing construction projects, educating personnel, and ensuring fire protection systems and extinguishers are compliant and serviceable.
Responsibilities
+ Perform annual fire prevention inspections for all AAAF facilities IAW AFI 32-2001, NFPA standards, and Appendix G of the contract.
+ Document, report, and follow up on fire hazards and fire safety deficiencies (FSDs).
+ Participate in pre-construction and final facility inspections to verify fire safety compliance.
+ Must maintain inspection quality and timeliness standards (no more than 2 missed inspections/month).
+ Review facility plans, design submissions, and work requests to ensure required fire protection features are integrated and emergency vehicle access is maintained.
+ Attend Work Request Review Boards (WRRBs), facility working group meetings, and design review meetings.
+ Inspect, maintain, and document serviceability of approximately 500+ fire extinguishers and halon canisters, including:
+ Monthly inspection of all facility extinguishers.
+ Monthly fire department-level inspection of halon and dry-chemical extinguishers.
+ Annual inspection of all extinguishers.
+ Support the implementation of the Fire Prevention Program, including code enforcement, public education, and hazard mitigation strategies.
+ Assist in training programs as needed under direction from Fire Prevention leadership.
+ Maintain compliance with NFPA 10, DoDM 6055.06, and other applicable DoD and Air Force regulations.
+ Ensure proper records management and reporting to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization of workspaces per G.8.4 requirements.
Qualifications
+ Minimum Qualifications:
+ Education: Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
+ Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Emergency Management, or a closely related field.
+ Certification:
+ Fire Inspector II (IFSAC or ProBoard accredited) – Required
+ Fire Instructor I – Required
+ Current certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
+ Experience:
+ Minimum 1 year of experience in a Fire Inspector duty position.
+ Must have passed a NFPA 1582-compliant physical examination within the last 12 months and remain current throughout contract term.
+ Must meet grooming and appearance standards IAW NFPA 1975. Uniforms not provided by the Government.
+ Ability to interact effectively with military leadership, contractors, and base personnel.
+ Familiarity with inspection tracking software and basic reporting tools (e.g., FES-IMS, MS Office Suite).
+ Preferred Qualifications:
+ Fire Inspector III and/or Fire Officer I certifications.
+ Experience working on DoD or USAF fire protection contracts.
+ Knowledge of Air Force and DoD fire prevention protocols and documentation standards.
