Position Overview:
As part of the talented Marine Operating Center team, you will specialize in handling boats and marine equipment within the boatyard. This position involves operating specialized forklifts to launch, retrieve, and transport vessels to designated areas while ensuring the highest level of care and safety. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy equipment operations, a strong understanding of marina operations, and a commitment to customer service and workplace safety. This role plays a key part in maintaining the smooth day-to-day functioning of the marina and delivering an exceptional experience to boat owners and customers

Essential Functions:
Ability to safely operate marine forklifts and hoisting equipment to lift, move, launch, and retrieve boats and other marine vessels.You will transport vessels to and from storage racks/areas, maintenance areas, and launch ramps, ensuring all movements are performed with care and precision to prevent damage.You will be expected to properly secure boats during handling and maintain a clean and organized work environment.This role involves close coordination with Operations staff, including mechanics and service personnel, to support efficient processes.Adherence to all safety protocols, load capacity limits, and environmental regulations is critical.Keep accurate records of boat movements and equipment usage logs as required, daily.Other tasks may involve:
Assisting in Polishing, waxing and final detail of boatsAssisting fellow team members in the shop moving boats down the lineThe repair or renewal of marine components on boatsDiversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience operating forklifts, ideally in a marine, shipping, or industrial setting.Understanding of regulations and compliance requirements related to marine operations and forklift use.Ability to operate various types of forklifts, including those used for heavy lifting and maneuvering in confined or challenging environments.Skills in safely loading, unloading, and securing cargo, with a focus on large or heavy items typical in marine settings.Basic knowledge of routine maintenance and troubleshooting for forklifts and related equipment. Strong attention to detail to determine accurate and safe handling of cargo.Effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other personnel to coordinate tasks and ensure safety.Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with marine operations and logistics is beneficial, including loading and unloading boats and equipment. Valid certification for operating forklifts, which may include specialized training for marine or heavy-duty forklifts.Training in occupational safety, particularly related to heavy equipment and marine environments, such as OSHA certifications or equivalent.Specific training in handling marine equipment or boats, if applicable.Experience in moving large or heavy marine equipment or boats is advantageous.Working Conditions:
The work environment is often outdoors and can be exposed to various weather conditions, including rain, wind, and extreme temperatures. They may also work in areas that are wet and slippery, which requires careful handling and awareness.Safety is a major concern due to the nature of the environment. Operators must adhere to strict safety protocols to avoid accidents. This includes wearing protective gear such as helmets, gloves, and high-visibility clothing. Involving continuous training in handling hazardous materials and dealing with emergency situations.The job can be physically demanding. Operators might have to handle heavy loads, and the work may involve constant position and moving for long periods. As well as frequent ascending and descending in and out of the forklift.Physically Forklifts can also generate significant vibrations, which operators need to manage to avoid fatigue or discomfort.Operators will also be responsible for performing routine maintenance and inspections on their equipment to ensure it remains in good working condition.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is crucial for marine forklift operators to ensure their safety and health in potentially hazardous working environments.Overall, the role of a marine forklift operator involves a blend of technical skill, physical endurance, and adherence to safety protocols in a dynamic and potentially challenging work environment.
Travel Requirements:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $18.00, hourly. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location.
