Job Title: Formulations Technician

About the Role:
As a Formulations Technician, you’ll be at the heart of innovation, helping to create and refine cutting-edge cannabis-infused edible and beverage products. Working closely with the Formulations Team, you’ll support research, development, and commercialization efforts while ensuring compliance with GMP, regulatory, and internal quality standards. This hands-on role involves conducting formulation trials, assisting in scale-up processes, and performing technical evaluations of product characteristics such as flavor, texture, and stability.
What You’ll Do:
Assist in the development and optimization of cannabis-infused formulations for edibles and beverages.
Conduct bench-top trials, pilot batches, and support full-scale production efforts.
Perform sensory testing, shelf-life evaluations, and quality assessments using tools like viscometers and texture analyzers.
Maintain and update technical documentation, including SOPs, batch records, and product information sheets.
Support regulatory compliance by assisting with labeling and documentation requirements.
Collaborate with external labs for testing and analyze the resulting data for internal use.
Manage ingredient and formulation data in MRP systems and formulation software.
Ensure adherence to GMP, food safety, and cannabis regulatory standards.
Communicate findings and support continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
Travel up to 10% for trials, production support, or industry-related events.
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Chemistry, or a related field with 2+ years of beverage manufacturing experience, or Master’s degree with 1+ year of relevant experience.
Direct experience with beverage formulation and scale-up processes.
Knowledge of ingredient functionality, emulsions, hydrocolloids, and food chemistry.
Familiarity with beverage and confectionery production equipment.
Experience in conducting sensory and shelf-life studies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and formulation software.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Understanding of GMPs, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
Even Better If You Have:
Experience with multiple cannabis dosage forms (e.g., tinctures, capsules, edibles).
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for ingredient and formulation tracking.
Background in data science or analytics in product development.
Prior experience supporting R&D trials or product commercialization.
Work experience in the cannabis industry or a regulated food manufacturing environment.

This position has allergen warnings, potential exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens, requires exposure to cleaning solvents, such as high volumes of isopropyl alcohol, requires daily use of provided PPE, such as masks, hair nets, beard covers, respirators, boot covers, scrubs, non-slip shoes, and Tyvek suits as necessary, requires the ability to work in confined spaces, has exposure to loud noises, including but not limited to air compressors, packaging equipment, and alarms, has exposure to CO2 manufacturing procedures at OSHA approved CO2 levels and requires a high stress tolerance, adaptability, and flexibility.
