Fraud Business Analyst

PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Fraud Business Analyst at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this job is to detect suspicious activity from multiple sources, including detection software, other PenFed internal systems and reports, and information provided through internal and external referrals. This position will place particular emphasis on being familiar with relevant datasets, creating and maintaining MIS, monitoring and identifying emerging fraud trends, and communicating findings to management. Execute data programming necessary to complete analysis of emerging fraud trends, fraud risk criteria, high risk segments, and help develop fraud prevention strategies. Extract meaning from large quantities of complex data, make connections, and identify anomalies, trends, and reoccurrences as it relates to fraudulent activity. Develop queries, analyses, and reports to identify key data elements that can be utilized to monitor and identify fraud trends. Maintain and run accurate and timely daily/weekly/monthly MIS. Create and manage decision effectiveness (fraud strategy performance evaluation and detection metrics) MIS and monitoring MIS – for fraud and disputes, identify underperforming strategy segments, and revise strategies. Support fraud detection efforts through data analysis, real-time strategy building, and MIS. Work closely with management to share findings and assist in identifying current fraud trends and root causes, identify fraud risk gaps, and collaborate with senior analysts on recommendations. Provide continuous analytical support with various types of ongoing fraud investigations. Ensure Proper controls are in place for the detection and prevention of suspicious activity to include but not limited to the use of automated systems, reports, and other technological tools. Clearly articulate findings and observations and make recommendations as appropriate. Employ necessary BI/reporting tools like Excel and SQL. Work with other business teams to ensure consistent and accurate reporting while minimizing redundancy. Research, investigate and monitor fraud claims items until resolved (backup capacity, if required). Qualifications Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Economics, or related field is required. Computer Science and Criminal Justice degrees will be considered with appropriate experience. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in data analytics, forensic accounting, fraud investigations, or BSA/AML is required. Experience working with large datasets and knowledge of various data analytics software packages and tools (e.g., MS-Excel, SAS, SQL, or ACL). Financial and business acumen, along with strong technical skills are key components of this position. Experience with data analytics required, preferably in authorizations or fraud risk. Expertise with Excel (including pivot table, creating charts and graphs) and Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with SAS, R Language, SQL, Visual Basic, Tableau, BI reporting tools, or other business intelligence tools required. Supervisory Responsibility This position will not supervise staff. Licenses and Certifications There are no additional certifications required. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise. *Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.* Travel Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
