The Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs will assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and initiatives designed to support first-generation college students.
Student Engagement (90%)
• This is a 20 hour a week in-person Graduate Assistantship for some with interest in supporting first-generation students with a commitment to supporting first-generation college students and knowledge of challenges they may face. This role is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student to gain experience in higher education while making a meaningful impact on the success of first-generation college students.
• Work closely with professional staff, faculty, and student leaders to enhance the first-generation student experience and promote academic success, engagement and belonging.
• Serve as a first-generation committee member with other key stakeholders.
• Assist in designing, coordinating, and facilitating workshops, programs, and events that support first-generation college students.
• Conduct outreach and provide resources to first-generation students to foster a sense of belonging and academic success.
• Serve as a liaison between first-generation students and campus support services, including academic advising, career services, and financial aid.
• Assist with data collection, program assessment, and reporting to evaluate the effectiveness of first-generation student initiatives.
• Support the planning and execution of large-scale events such as First-Generation College Celebration Week and the Tri-Alpha Honor Society (for first-generation students’) annual induction ceremony.
• Develop marketing materials and social media content to promote first-generation student initiatives and services.
• Collaborate with undergraduate student workers and organizations involved in first-generation student programming.
Department/Division Support (10%)
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with program development, student engagement, or peer mentoring is preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Attend ongoing training and division wide retreats.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor.
