Salary Range: [Insert Range or "Commensurate with experience"]Position Overview:The [City/Town/County Name] Public Works Department is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of heavy construction equipment to support maintenance, construction, and repair projects throughout the municipality. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with equipment such as backhoes, mini excavators, bobcats, and Gradalls.Key Responsibilities:Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to backhoes, mini excavators, skid-steer loaders (Bobcats), and Gradalls.Perform construction, maintenance, and repair tasks on public infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, storm drains, and public buildings.Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance to ensure proper and safe operation.Follow safety protocols and regulations set forth by OSHA and municipal guidelines.Work with a team or independently on assigned tasks; coordinate with supervisors and other staff as necessary.Assist with snow removal, debris cleanup, and emergency response operations as needed.Maintain accurate logs of work performed and equipment used.Qualifications:High school diploma or GED.Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain.Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a municipal or construction environment.Demonstrated experience operating backhoes, mini excavators, bobcats, and Gradalls.Ability to read and interpret construction plans, maps, and technical manuals.Strong understanding of equipment safety practices and mechanical aptitude.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, and operate controls for extended periods.Additional Information:Position may require overtime, on-call, and weekend work, particularly during emergency situations or severe weather events.Background check and drug screening required upon offer of employment.
