Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesExperience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.Updating patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Additional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced hospital setting. Inpatient and Outpatient experience needed!!!Phlebotomy processing experience is highly preferred.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School DiplomaPhlebotomy Certification is preferred.Work Environment

This is a fulltime role in downtown Milwaukee. Schedule is 4:00am to 12:30pm. Monday through Friday with every other weekend rotation.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.99 - $18.99/hr.
