Langan is seeking an attorney to join its collaborative team as In-House Counsel. This individual will directly support Langan’s General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel. The role will have a strong focus on claim and litigation management, along with other legal, risk, and compliance matters consisting primarily of contract reviews and negotiations. In this role, you will have the opportunity to handle firm-wide legal matters in an environment that offers progressive challenges and an ever-changing landscape. While the preferred location for this position is in our corporate headquarters in Parsippany, NJ, candidates in other locations may be considered.
Job Responsibilities:
Litigation Management: Support the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel with managing claims and litigation, including case strategy, discovery, motions, trials, and appeals. Claims Handling: Manage and resolve claims filed against the company, including conducting thorough investigations, gathering evidence, negotiating settlements, and liaising with insurance. Legal Documentation: Work with technical staff and outside counsel to prepare pleadings, respond to discovery requests, and draft legal documents such as motions and briefs. Reporting: Update claims and litigation reports and report new matters to insurers. Risk Mitigation: Collaborate with project executives and technical managers to proactively identify, assess, and advise on dispute avoidance and risk mitigation strategies. Insurance and Compliance: Assist with the company’s insurance, risk management, and compliance programs. Subpoena Management: Manage subpoenas received by the firm. Contract Negotiation: Review, edit, and negotiate professional service contracts and ancillary documents. Other Duties: Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree. Minimum 3-7 years of relevant experience in litigation and claims management, preferably in private practice, as in-house counsel, or a claims adjuster. Experience in the architecture/engineering/construction (A/E/C) industry strongly preferred. License to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction (or the ability to obtain licensure within 90 days). Exceptional organization and prioritization skills. Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities. Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $125,000 - $175,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
