Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Inspection Lead to oversee the inspection activities for a major midstream oil and gas project in Tanzania. The Inspection Lead will manage a team of specialists and be responsible for ensuring asset mechanical integrity through inspection planning, execution, and coordination. The role involves working across multiple locations and coordinating inspection efforts between various entities in both Tanzania and Uganda.
Key Responsibilities: Lead a team of 5 inspection specialists, including experts in pipeline, corrosion, site, method, and contract management. Establish and review the overall maintenance inspection philosophy and processes. Define and manage the inspection scope, ensuring it meets the required standards and objectives. Oversee the preparation of the Maintenance Inspection Budget. Ensure that all required inspection services contracts are in place and comply with relevant regulations. Coordinate the execution of inspection activities across Tanzania and Uganda. Validate inspection reports, analyze findings, and recommend remedial actions as needed. Participate in technical audits of contracted companies regarding Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), welding, pressure vessel fabrication, and coating. Ensure compliance with local and international standards (ASME, API, NACE, etc.) and maintain asset integrity. Optimize the performance of inspection teams, including tracking KPIs related to progress, budget, and safety. Mentor and coach junior Inspection Engineers, sharing expertise on damage mechanisms, inspection techniques, and industry best practices. Ensure continuous alignment with company HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality) policies and life-saving rules. Actively contribute to a culture of safety by identifying potential risks and communicating ways to mitigate them. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workplace, adhering to the highest standards of housekeeping. Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanics, Materials Engineering, or a related field with a focus on materials, metallurgy, and corrosion. In-depth knowledge of Oil & Gas process equipment, technology, and pipeline systems. Familiarity with international Codes, Standards, and Regulations related to the inspection discipline (e.g., ASME, API, NACE). Proficient in materials, metallurgy, welding, corrosion, failure modes, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and inspection techniques. Strong knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology and Fitness for Service (API RP 579, ASME, DNV). Proficient in Computerized Maintenance & Inspection Management Systems (CMIMS). ERB Registration as a Professional Engineer. Experience Required: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in supervisory or leadership roles related to inspection activities in the Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Petrochemical industries. Extensive experience in full field shutdown inspection scope preparation and follow-up. Proven track record in managing inspection teams and ensuring operational efficiency. Strong experience in managing budgets and tracking project KPIs. Skills and Competencies: Strong leadership and team management skills. Ability to develop and implement inspection plans that ensure compliance with regulations and technical standards. Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English. Extensive experience in technical audits and corrective action planning. Highly organized with a strong ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Expertise in coaching and developing junior inspection engineers. Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities: Fully comply with Company HSEQ policies and Life Saving Rules. Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. Maintain awareness of potential unsafe conditions and report them to management.
