Scotland Health Care System, Laurinburg, North Carolina Insurance Biller Scotland Health Care System is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Insurance Biller to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring all charges are processed and billed accurately and in a timely manner. You will ensure that all claims meet the requirements set forth by the National Uniform Billing specifications, the State of North Carolina and South Carolina, along with HCFA. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor and resource to fellow Patient Account Staff and assist with special projects related to Patient Accounts. Your goal will be to meet 90% of the cash goal compared to net patient revenue. Key Responsibilities: + Work daily electronic billing files and submit insurance claims to third-party payers, governmental payers, worker's compensation, auto, and liability claims. + Ensure timely, accurate billing and follow-up practices in accordance with specific payer requirements. + Obtain any missing required billing information and refer consistent deficiencies to management. + Correct pended claims in FISS for Medicare claims processing. + Monitor and process late charge claims and adjustment claims within 2 business days of request or eligibility to re-file. + Monitor bill holds and identify common issues preventing claim submission, coordinating with other departments to improve related processes. + Assist department leaders in establishing, implementing, and verifying adherence to controls that maintain appropriate claim submission, billing, and reimbursement practices. + Perform routine quality assurance checks prior to submission to prevent denials and track rejected claims for correction, follow-up, or appeals. + Plan, coordinate, and implement ongoing staff training and education in collaboration with department leaders to drive performance. + Review aged claims with fellow billing staff to determine viable payment resolution strategies. + Collaborate with other departments to identify best-practices collection strategies, align goals, and improve collections. + Complete HBI Revenue Cycle classes. + Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts on an ongoing basis, establishing goals with the manager and tracking progress. + Understand and maintain compliance with HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information. + Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: + High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. + Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or a related field. + Strong knowledge of National Uniform Billing specifications, HCFA, and state-specific billing requirements. + Proficiency in electronic billing systems and Medicare claims processing. + Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in billing practices. + Ability to mentor and train staff effectively. + Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve billing issues. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills. + Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and compliance. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. + Commitment to continuous quality improvement and professional development.
