The Office is currently seeking an investigator to join the Consumer Protection Division where they will work to enforce the newly enacted Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, as well as laws related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. As an investigator, you will design and carry out research projects, collect and analyze data, prepare detailed reports summarizing your findings, and provide recommendations on whether investigative action is warranted based on your analysis. You will review consumer complaints to identify potential violations of privacy and data security laws and provide recommendations on the feasibility and appropriateness of enforcement actions. You will monitor technology markets to identify emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on consumer privacy and data security. Additionally, you will participate in community outreach and deliver training sessions focused on data privacy and consumer technology issues. A successful candidate in this position will be able to: + Demonstrate curiosity and motivation as a self-starter + Identify violations of law using appropriate investigative techniques + Determine relevant data sources and obtain them through civil investigative demands + Use independent judgment to analyze data and support the development of case theories + Design effective injunctive terms and monetary remedies + Manage multiple projects simultaneously, even if they are in different stages or areas of consumer protection + Take responsibility for and maintain control over daily investigative work + Collaborate closely with consumer protection attorneys who oversee and participate in investigations + Manage an investigative caseload to ensure timely progress of matters + Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and mentorship opportunities + Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills + Be detail-oriented, creative, and a proactive problem solver + Possess strong writing and analytical skills + Demonstrate initiative, a strong work ethic, and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office work and telework). **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree: completion of formal paralegal or law enforcement coursework from an accredited program, which resulted in a program certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree; or four years of demonstrable similar experience + Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively interact and communicate with persons from diverse backgrounds, languages, and cultures + Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Excel + Familiarity with legal procedures, rules of evidence, and/or investigative procedures + Demonstrated skill in: (1) research and writing; (2) critical thinking; (3) communication; and (4) organization. To be considered at the Legal Assistant 6 level, candidates must have at least 6 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the Legal Assistant 7 level, candidates must have at least 12 years of directly related experience. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience or academic background in consumer protection related issues + Knowledge of state or federal consumer protection laws + Prior experience/knowledge of data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer technology + Prior experience/knowledge with the Minnesota or federal civil court system + Experience in: + conducting criminal or civil investigations + conducting background checks and searching public records + interviewing witnesses + using eDiscovery tools or platforms + Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Excel + Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or other relevant language for Minnesota **Physical Requirements** + Ability to move and transport such articles as files, laptop computer and resource materials weighing up to 20 pounds **Additional Requirements** It is our policy that all candidates submit to a background investigation prior to employment.
