Job Description
Under direct supervision, the Lab Technician is responsible for performing routine tasks and simple analysis on hazardous waste samples utilizing prescribed procedures in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines. This role involves specialized analysis using laboratory methods with applied quality assurance and control procedures. Additionally, the technician maintains the laboratory to ensure compliance with company hygiene plans.
ResponsibilitiesPerform testing of inbound and process materials using a variety of fingerprint screens, cyanide analysis, and other wet chemistry methodologies to determine the nature of hazardous substances.Ensure proper written and electronic documentation of all test results including QA/QC, and audit sample documents for approval and completeness.Gather appropriate paperwork for management approvals and notify staff of any incomplete sections needing attention. Document non-conformance of test results to WIP parameters.Compile and report analysis data including QA/QC data for review.Perform periodic audits of analytical logs to ensure federal regulation compliance for completeness and error corrections.Conduct analysis using specialized equipment such as gas chromatographs, calorimeters, KF titrators, and automatic/manual flash point testers.Assist facility personnel with approval paperwork to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the disposal of hazardous waste materials.Communicate test results to other departments in a timely manner.Maintain proficiency in troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance.Maintain current status for all training and certifications.Prepare standards and reagents.Essential SkillsQuality controlQuality assuranceWet chemistry analysisSample preparation and testingLaboratory operations supportAnalytical chemistryData entryAdditional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of a GED or high school diploma required; preferred is an associate's degree in a science such as environmental science, biology, or chemistry.Lab background without a degree is acceptable.Ability to lift 50-100 lbs.Work Environment
The work environment is an industrial production lab that provides operations support to the facility. The job duties involve 65% lab work (standing) and 35% paperwork at a desk for sample data and analysis. The assigned shift is Thursday–Monday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a training period spanning 3–4 months initially scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, later shifting to 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM. The facility operates 7 days per week over 3 shifts, accommodating 150 employees. The lab is deadline-oriented and busy, with technicians working under a fume hood. The team culture is described as fun, spirited, and like a big family, with free lunches and team-building events. Pay increases are based on merit, performance, and company performance and are considered annually.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
