Lay Leadership Development Director
Overview Provide overall leadership and direction for recruiting, training, and encouraging local officers and other lay leaders in the Division. The Leadership Development Director will be expected to spend time at the Corps during the week and weekends, including Sundays. The Director must become intimately aware of every Corps in the command regarding current and potential lay leadership. Responsibilities The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the duties that m ay be required . Corps Leadership Development & Local Officer Training + Educate and assist the C orps in developing important C orps leadership bodies, including but not limited to Senior and Junior Pastoral Care Councils and Corps Councils. + Function as a conduit of information between DHQ and Local Units regarding Local Officership . + Provide local officer training through various mediums, including retreats, individual consultations , corps workshops, and webinars. + Develop an annual schedule of divisional training events , including Soldiers’ Rallies, Local Officer Retreats, Leadership Training Days, etc. + Develop promotional materials and presentations using flyers, posters , bulletins, PowerPoint presentations, Corps visits, and announcements at Divisional events . + Provide annual training on Spiritual Health , including: + Personal Spiritual Health + Corps Spiritual Health + Spiritual Health of others through the importance of outreach ministry + Provide bi-annual training on local officers' financial stewardship and Corps finance responsibility . Training should include the following: + Developing local fundraisers and community awareness with Corps Officers . + How to read a budget presented in the C orps council . + Personal tithing responsibilities . + Importance of active volunteer service . + Recruit and coordinate attendance at territorial programs including but not limited to The Arsenal and LEAD. Local Officer Recruitment + Educate Corps Officers, Pastoral Care Councils, Corps Councils, and Soldiers about the importance, benefits, and processes of making local O fficers . + Help Corps Officers to identify potential leaders and connect them with a ministry role that exercises their spiritual gifts and aligns with their talent and abilities. + Emphasize the recruitment and development of key local officers such as The Recruiting Sergeant, The Corps Sergeant Major, and the Corps Secretary. + Utilize various assessments to help place lay leaders appropriately. + B ecome familiar with S oldier s in the division who are or could become local leaders. Local Officer Processing + Per the Orders and Regulations, process all applications for local O fficership . + Coordinate with the Divisional KeepSAafe Coordinator to ensure that all applicants comply with KeepSAfe and State law . + Notify all relevant departments of applicants (i.e., a YPSM to the youth department). + Submit the completed application packet to the Divisional Commander through the Divisional Program Secretary. + Ensure completed applications are returned to the C orps with appropriate certificates promptly . + Recommend uniform trim, pins, badges, etc. , to the Corps Officers for all new local leadership roles and requested positions . + In addition to keeping a list of all current LOs in the division, work with the Program Executive Assistant to ensure that all LOs are recorded in the Corps Management Database and NSS (Stats). + Encourage local officers through renewals and long-service awards. + Encourage Corps and Local Officers to participate in the annual Territorial Day of Local Officer Renewal. + Ensure that renewal resources are effectively dispersed to the frontline and act as a source of information to provide support through the renewal process. + Compile and process annual local officer long service awards. + Assist C orps O fficers and divisional staff with updating soldiers’ information in the CMD , including removing or transferring local officers and their commissions from the C orps rolls and C orps management database . Divisional Soldier’s Express Council + Chair the Divisional Soldier’s Express Council . + Prepare the agenda for all meetings in consultation with the Divisional Program Secretary . + Propose guidelines to the Divisional Program Secretary for the functioning and work of the Divisional Soldier’s Express Council . + Ensure that the minutes for all Soldier’s Council Meetings are recorded promptly and that all Council business is followed through as directed by the Divisional Program Secretary. + Provide support to the Divisional Territorial Soldiers' Express Council Representative as directed. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for First Year The position will be re-evaluated after one year . It is expected that the following goals will be reached at or before the one-year mark: + Develop an annual schedule of D ivisional T raining E vents: Soldiers’ Rallies, Local Officer Retreats, Leadership Training Days, etc. + Assist every C orps (27 locations) with updating their soldier’s information in CMD by October 2024 (2-3 C orps per week) . + Provide one training course on Spiritual Health . + Provide a minimum of one training course on Evangelism . + Provide at least one training course on Financial S tewardship and C orps F inance R esponsibility of L ocal O fficers . Qualifications Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in education , m inistry, or a r elated f ield. + At least five years of experience in a related field. + Must be a uniform - wearing Salvationist and hold an active leadership role in a Corps. + Willing to work weekends and evening hours when necessary. + Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record. + Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization. Desired Qualifications + Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred. + Proficient in Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint) .
