Job Description
The Project Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and detailed engineering processes to facilitate the construction of high-speed aluminum vessels. This role involves leading a team of engineers, ensuring project milestones are met, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
-Lead engineering and technical efforts for projects, supporting various stakeholders.
-Perform and review regulatory calculations and detailed reports.
-Conduct basic calculations for system and component design.
-Design and review all vessel aspects: Naval Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical.
-Create and review 3D models.
-Lead engineering and design reviews.
-Liaise between Engineering, Project Management, and production to resolve issues.
-Manage subcontractor design agents and internal engineering staff.
-Develop and maintain Ship Constructor and SolidWorks models.
-Create engineering standards, procedures, and standard blocks.
-Maintain libraries of engineering standards and procedures.
-Use ERP systems for material requisitions and shop orders.
-Compile and manage complex work packages.
-Produce and review customer documentation (RFI, Submittals, ECR, NCR).
-Provide technical advice as a Subject Matter Expert.
-Manage project engineers and subcontractors to achieve goals.
-Establish and manage project engineering strategies and schedules.
-Guide mechanical system design across projects.
-Review engineering output for design standards adherence.
-Ensure timely completion and distribution of production drawings.
-Assist Chief Naval Architect with team assignments and performance feedback.
-Support Project Management and Production during construction.
-Adhere to safety standards and company policies.
-Participate in performance evaluations and continuous improvement programs.
-Participate in sea trials of completed vessels.

Skills and Requirements
15 years of direct experience with boatbuilding/shipyard required, high speed aluminum vessels preferred
-Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
Experience and familiarity with industry regulations: ABS, USCG CFR, IACS, ABYC, IEEE, IMO/SOLAS, and military contracts is preferred.
Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical, and outfit details.
Preferred knowledge of ERP and PDM systems.
Detail-oriented with the ability to work with tight specifications.
Skilled in problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and drawing valid conclusions.
Capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex documents, including codes, standards, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
Effective communicator with creative problem-solving skills, able to work well with all levels of authority and technical knowledge.
Proficient in writing reports, technical proposals, and business correspondence.
