Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT: Responsibilities The Lead Patient Care Technician will provide direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse to all assigned patients and maintain a safe patient area. Assist in the triaging of patients, including admission, transfer, and discharge Report all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences of an urgent nature as they develop Take vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collect specimens Respond to emergency situations Assist with patient transport and transfer Collect, report, and document clinical data Adhere to safety and risk management standards Assist with clerical and communication tasks to support patient care Perform any and all other duties assigned Balance and prepare the schedule for the manager review and publishing Work with staff for all open shifts and staffing needs. Lead the monthly Patient Care Technician staff meeting, complete with meeting minutes and follow-up Preceptorship of all new Patient Care Technician candidates, including completion of the orientation handbook Monitors staff BLS certifications and ensures all certifications are up to date AIDET validation and revalidation on new and existing staff Perform any and all duties as assigned Qualifications Job Requirements A high school diploma or GED At least 2 years of experience as a Patient Care Technician in an Emergency Department Setting Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Preferred Job Requirements Licensure: EMT, EMT-P certification, or equivalent training or hospital experience required Certified Nursing Assistant and/or nursing student enrolled in a Nursing program who has successfully completed theoretical and clinical practical in fundamentals of nursing in nursing school
