Job Description:

The successful candidate will have day-to-day responsibility for all legal aspects of Blackstone’s Life Sciences business. The successful candidate will report to Blackstone’s General Counsel of Private Equity Strategies and work closely with investment professionals and business unit leadership, as well as various functions including other Blackstone Legal & Compliance groups.

Responsibilities:

Primary job responsibilities will include:

Transactional Support

Review and provide comments to bid letters, term sheets and related bid documentation

Leading and working with deal team/outside counsel on transaction documents and related issues

Advise on transaction-related legal, structuring and regulatory matters

Oversight of NDAs process and engagement letters

Liaise with operations, tax, fund and compliance teams on a variety of matters, including signing and closing process, regulatory matters and LP and co-investor matters

Portfolio Company Support

Monitor ongoing governance and other legal matters at portfolio companies

Liaise with government relations and public affairs teams on portfolio company-related reputational and press matters

Other

Participate in team meetings and investment committee meetings

Liaise with government relations and public affairs teams on transaction-related reputational and press matters

Advise on outside counsel selection

Assisting on firm wide Legal & Compliance issues and projects as necessary

Qualifications:

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, proactive, intelligent, and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. The successful candidate should meet the following qualifications:

10+ years experience at a law firm and/or in a legal role at a financial services, private equity or asset management firm with substantial knowledge of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the day-to-day compliance affairs of private funds

A J.D. is required as well as admission to the bar in MA and NY.

The ability to travel regularly between Cambridge and New York

Strong technical skills, intellect, and understands difficult, complex legal and business problems

Works well with colleagues to devise pragmatic and creative solutions

Prioritization, perspective and focus on critical tasks that add value

Excellent organizational skills and follow-through 

Highly effective verbal and written communication

Expected annual base salary range:

$210,000 - $275,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
