The Litigation Docketing Specialist will be a member of the Litigation Docketing Department and works under the supervision of the Litigation Docketing Manager. The Specialist will work closely with attorneys and legal staff to provide thorough and accurate litigation calendaring services for all federal, state, and agency matters. Responsibilities include reviewing court documents, legal correspondence, and case team requests and entering deadlines into the firm’s rules-based calendaring software, CompuLaw Vision. The Specialist will follow all firm docketing procedures, best practices, and workflows. The Specialist will assist in the department’s mission of delivering best in class service to clients and mitigating risk to the firm.

A Day in the Life

As a Litigation Docketing Specialist, you will be responsible for independently entering case information, activity, and deadlines into CompuLaw Vision, ensuring compliance with all department procedures, best practices, and workflows. Respond to requests from attorneys and legal staff regarding deadlines and court rules. Conduct jurisdictional research and provide comprehensive summaries to case teams, with oversight from the Senior Litigation Docketing Specialists and Manager as needed. Ensure assigned calendaring is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Maintain policies and protocols to ensure the accurate entry of deadlines and docket entries into CompuLaw Vision. Create and circulate reports to case teams for review and confirmation of deadlines. Quality review work product according to internal department procedures and escalate questions to senior docketing staff and litigation docketing manager in a timely manner. Provide suggestions to the litigation docketing manager to assist with improving department procedures and workflow. Stay well informed of developments, procedures, and rules in the forums where the firm practices as well as general state and federal practices. Work on projects as needed.

We Know You

The Ideal candidate will have a degree from an accredited college or university, a paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience/education is required. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of docketing experience in a law firm setting. They should possess strong attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills, and a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction without constant supervision. Prior experience computing deadlines in both federal and state courts is required, with experience in CompuLaw Vision preferred. Familiarity with rules-based calendaring software such as Milana is helpful. Candidates should have knowledge of the litigation lifecycle, legal procedures, terminology, and court rules in both federal and state courts. They must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and effectively summarize findings. Excellent communication and people skills are essential, along with the ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy. Candidates must work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines and be highly adaptable to a fluid and ever-changing work environment. Being service-oriented and able to work collaboratively in a team setting is crucial. Strong proficiency in MS Office is preferred, and the ability to work overtime when required is necessary.

 

At Nelson Mullins, we are dedicated to transparent and fair compensation practices. Pay for this position is determined by factors such as experience, skills, and location. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for performance bonuses and benefits such as healthcare, retirement plans, and paid time off.

In California the salary/wage range is $85,000 - $105,000 annually. Who We Are
