Plans, develops, coordinates and delivers clinical and non-clinical education programs which include orientation, continuing education/in-services, and competency management to Long Term Care departments and hospital departments who serve in Long Term Care. Leads Performance Improvement activities.  Supervises clinical areas.  Serves as an Infection Control Preventionist.  Serves as a clinical expert for Long Term Care.

Responsibilities Participates in the completion of the Facility Assessment not less than annually to determining the knowledge and skills required among staff to meet resident’s needs. Assume a leadership role in the identification and prioritization of the facility’s educational needs through the completion of an Educational Needs Assessment, based on the Facility Assessment. Develops a training plan that addresses all regulatory requirements and topics identified in the Facility Assessment and/or Educational Needs Assessment. Plans, develops, coordinates and delivers clinical education programs which include orientation, continuing education units, and competency management; responsible for design, implementation and evaluation of these programs in Long Term Care as well as ancillary departments providing services in Long term Care to meet CMS regulatory requirements.    Plans, develops, coordinates and delivers general and/or unit specific non-clinical education programs based on identified learning needs; responsible for design, implementation and evaluation of these programs in Long Term Care as well as with ancillary departments providing services in Long term Care to meet CMS regulatory requirements.   Develops and maintains electronic records and reports required to document educational activities including program evaluations. Maintains all training records, reports, instructional materials and speaker qualifications related to each educational program.  Tracks and verifies attendance/completion of training and maintains individual records to meet regulatory requirements for CMS, ADPH and other regulatory agencies.  Functions as a leader in Performance Improvement activities including on-going measures, evaluation of clinical performance and processes, leading Performance Improvement teams, identifying quality issues and facilitating change toward improvements in Long Term Care and Departments who serve in Long Term Care. Serves as a Long Term Care Nurse Supervisor as needed for coverage of the unit. Maintains special training as an Infection Preventionist serving as backup for the Infection Control Coordinator in the facility. Participates in the development, interpretation and education of policies, procedures and guidelines. Reviews and revises educational content to ensure the information reflects current standards of practice and facility policies and procedures. Utilizes outside resources for content development. Routinely rounds on and performs audits of staff to assess learning needs, troubleshoot learning or performance issues and provide education. Serves as the clinical expert for Long Term Care Leads, directs and participates in unit staff meetings as needed.Serves as an educational and clinical resource to other departments including participation on various facility teams as needed.Uses evidence-based teaching strategies, techniques and technology to promote positive learning and practice environments.Assists in data collection related to educational needs of staff on an ongoing basis.Participates in ongoing development, revision and validation of staff competencies.Maintains accurate, well-organized records.  Integrates ethics, regulatory and best practices in the development of educational activities as applicable.Coordinates and assists with staff education related to new equipment.Maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing professional development practice as well as instructor status of applicable AHA courses. Affiliation with professional organizations encouraged.Stays well-informed about of industry standards applicable to area of practice.Achieves continuous, measurable improvement in areas of responsibility.Provides updates for Nurse Managers regarding the performance of staff.Escalates clinical/safety concerns appropriately and in a timely manner. Maintains technical skills to operate clinical equipment and serve as a resource for staff.In addition to above elements:

Qualifications

 

Current Alabama RN licensure required.  BSN with 1 year clinical nursing home experience OR 3 years clinical nursing home experience required. Train the Trainer Certification preferred.  Infection Preventionist training preferred.  Teaching and leadership experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Computer skills required with knowledge of various software programs and educational technology such as Relias, Outlook, Power Point, Publisher, Word, Excel and others preferred.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
