We have an outstanding Contract to Hire position for a Material Planner to join a leading Company located in the Norfolk, VA surrounding area.

Responsibilities:Will be responsible for soliciting suppliers for price and availability information for materials where required. Experience in developing material estimates for repairs on US Navy and Commercial shipsBe cognizant of materials that are Long Lead Time Materials (LLTM) and identify as such as needed. Generate Pre-Proposal Inquiry (PPI), Request for Clarification (RFC), and Inspection/Deficiency Report (IDR), as required with regard to government-furnished information, customer-furnished information, and material problems and issues. Review and take appropriate action on all answered correspondence. Interface with trades as necessary to ensure material estimates and requisitions contain the proper size, type, and quantity of material needed to support their particular production effort. Trade interface is also required to field questions, identify issues, and prevent/resolve problems to ensure a quality product. Review and ensure that all estimates are complete, accurate, and submitted on schedule. Be cognizant of all schedules in order to ensure required need dates are promulgated to vendors. Interface with the Purchasing Dept. regarding cost and supplier information and provide Request for Quote (RFQ) information to the Buyers. Frequent contact with the Labor Estimators, Buyers, Ship Superintendents, Craft Supervisors, and Craft Personnel. Frequent contact with outside material suppliers. Perform similar, incidental, and other duties as assigned. Able to work independently with minimal immediate supervision.
Basic Hiring Criteria:High school diploma or equivalent.Minimum 3 years of experience.
Desired Qualifications:The knowledge and ability to interpret vessel drawings, technical manuals, and work specifications to develop material estimates for repairs on ships.Develop material estimates for new/growth work resulting from inspection reports, deficiency reports, and contract changes. The ability to deliver efficient, effective, and flexible solutions to meet production requirements. Identify and select vendors to procure requisitioned commodities, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality, and delivery dates. Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and ensure demand for materials is met and deliveries made on time.Develop and implement processes and work with suppliers on continuous improvement initiatives.Support assessment and sourcing of suppliers in conjunction with members of the purchasing team. Support supplier meetings and negotiations to ensure the demand for materials is met.Resolve supplier concerns and evaluate supplier performance in conjunction with members of the purchasing team.
