Job Summary

\n

The Medical Physics Specialist 1 helps maintain compliance with regulations for imaging equipment and processes. Functions as the liaison and first line of communication between radiation safety staff and physicians, staff, and patients.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nWorks with the Radiation Safety Physics Staff to ensure that radiation safety and image quality standards are maintained.\nArranges for calibration of radiation monitoring instruments. Records calibrations and dates in computer and maintains calibrations certificates.\nAble to conduct performance evaluations of patient imaging equipment.\nMaintains appropriate, accurate, and complete documentation to ensure regulatory compliance in an organized and timely manner.\nCommunicates as needed and in a timely manner with the personnel monitoring vendor to handle routine issues.\nNotifies the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) immediately of any unusual exposure events.\nPerforms measurements of patient and public exposure levels. Ensures regulatory standards are met and doses minimized under a licensed medical physicist's direction.\n\n

Key Success Factors

\n\nKnowledge of imaging equipment, processes and quality standards.\nKnowledge of radiation testing, safety and compliance.\nAble to conduct performance evaluations of patient imaging equipment under the supervision of a licensed medical physicist.\nAble to box and ship radioactive hazardous materials following state and federal rules.\nAble to communicate appropriate radiation safety concerns to the facilities in a manner that will facilitate improvements.\nAble to properly respond to radiation exposure from area or machine-radiation surveys, cleanup of radioactive spills and patient excreta, etc.\nAble to understand radiation safety and set an example for fellow employees.\nAble to take call, if required.\n\n

EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited ProgramEXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION

Drivers License (TXDL): If moving from out of state must obtain valid TX DL within 90 days of hire.
