Salary Range: $23.98 - $26.35

Position Summary Under direct supervision, provides secretarial, patient care coordination and related administrative support for one or more providersJob Responsibilities Schedules, confirms, re-schedules and cancels appointments for both new and existing patients using the scheduling application. Fields telephone inquiries from patients and referring physician offices. Takes messages and/or triages calls to appropriate staff. Escalates more complex issues to senior staff, clinical team members and/or department managers for resolution. Ensures patient charts and registration face sheets are available and prepared for visit. Schedules follow-up procedures, radiology and diagnostic tests. Maintains physicians’ administrative (research and academic) and clinical/surgical schedules. Processes medical record requests for provider(s), according to institutional and compliance standards. Obtains, reviews and updates patient demographic and insurance information within the practice management billing system. Verifies patient insurance eligibility and obtains necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date. Facilitates the communication and collection of any fees due from patient. Responsible for front-end revenue cycle processes, which may include but is not limited to, the check-in/check-out of patients and collection/reconciliation of time-of-service payments,as applicable. May also discuss patient’s responsibility for payments If applicable, ensures that patients provide any pre-visit documentation, pre-certifications or authorizations for medical services as needed, and/or a referral, if required. Initiates and prepares written correspondence as needed and based on functional needs. May be responsible for chaperone duties during patient exams as needed. Education High school diploma or GED Experience Approximately 1 or more years of experience succeeding in a customer/patient service role over telephone and in-personKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Previous experience using computerized appointment scheduling systems (EPIC preferred) and/or electronic Medical Record (eMR) system (ideally EPIC-Care). Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding. Working knowledge of third party payor reimbursement - Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial insurance.
