CHH offers personalized attention from an expert team of caregivers and physicians that utilize advanced technology and clinical partnerships in a convenient, safe and comfortable patient environment. *_POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE_* Coordinates medical staff activities. Responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of medical staff credentialing process. Provides assistance to the various medical staff departments and committees. Facilitates communication among committees and departments as well as the medical and hospital staffs. Assists in coordinating continuing medical education programs for the medical staff. Reports to the Vice President for Medical Affairs. *_ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_* 1. Maintains current credentialing procedures that follow The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and meet the standards of reviewing and accrediting bodies including the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Connecticut Department of Health Services. 2. Coordinates the credentialing process for appointment, reappointment, temporary privileges, and change in privileges or staff status according to established procedures. 3. For appointment and, as required, for reappointment, performs primary source verification of practitioner data, queries the National Practitioner Data Bank as part of the credentialing process and assures that credential folders are maintained in an accurate and timely manner. 4. Maintains physician database and physician specific database in the hospital information system. 5. Organizes and presents Medical Staff Orientation Packet for new Medical Staff members. 6. Provides accurate and timely administrative assistance to the Vice President for Medical Affairs, the Medical Staff President and officers, and the Medical Staff Department Chairs. 7. Provides assistance to the medical staff in developing agendas, documenting minutes and communicating actions taken for medical staff departments and committees. Serves as a resource to the departments and committees in regard to standards and requirements of accrediting and licensing bodies. 8. Assures that on-call schedules are completed in a timely manner and reviewed when indicated. 9. Maintains the Medical Staff Educational Fund, i.e., collects annual dues, issues checks to speakers, prepares financial statements. 10. Assists in the development of the department’s operating budget and ensures that the department operates within budget. 11. Participates in JCAHO surveys and other regulatory agency surveys as required. 12. Assists with the coordination of the continuing medical education program under the direction of the Director of Medical Education. 13. Completes and maintains all documentation regarding continuing medical education programs in an accurate and timely manner. Assists in completing the application for the CSMS CME Accreditation Survey and participates in the survey review. 14. Assists the Vice President, Medical Affairs, with coordination of library services in conjunction with the agreement for services with Hartford Hospital’s Library Services. 15. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops. 16. Arranges for program meeting rooms, equipment and catering as needed. 17. Performs all other related duties as assigned. 18. Consistently demonstrates caring for patients, for one another, and for the organization they are part of, and contributes to building trust, pride and camaraderie. *_EDUCATION_* * An Associate Degree in business or related field and three (3) years but less than five (5) years of job related experience are required. * Certification as Medical Staff Coordinator is also required. *_EXPERIENCE_* * Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. * Healthcare experience, medical terminology, computer skills, and knowledge of JCAHO and NCQA standards are required.
