Position Summary:
A Mohs Technician specializes in processing and preparing tissue samples for Mohs micrographic surgery, a technique used to treat skin cancer. Their primary responsibilities include freezing and cutting tissue specimens, staining slides for microscopic examination, and to ensure accurate identification of tissue margins. Mohs Technicians play a vital role in supporting surgeons by providing precise and timely histological results that guide cancer removal. Strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.

Required Qualifications:
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Eligible to sit for the Histotechnician exam through American Society for Clinical PathologyOr
Bachelor’s degree through the successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program, and passage of the ASCP HT certification exam. Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Certified Histotechnician (HT) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Attention to Detail and Precision: Exceptional attention to detail is required to ensure that surgical margins are fully represented and that slides are free of any diagnostic hindrances, such as tissue folds or artifacts. Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve technical issues related to tissue processing, sectioning, and staining in a fast-paced environment. Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant healthcare regulations, quality control standards, and safety protocols in laboratory environments.Preferred Qualifications:
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or allied health profession with at least 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, and passage of the ASCP HTL certification exam. 2 years of experience working as a Mohs technician Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Mohs-Specific Skills: an in-depth understanding of the Mohs micrographic surgical process. Advanced Staining Techniques: Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and other advanced staining techniques is a plus. Histology Expertise: A strong foundation in histology, with proven experience in histological techniques, including tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Demonstrate proficiency in use of Cryostat: Expertise in the use of cryostats for frozen sectioning, with the ability to quickly and accurately produce diagnostic-quality sections under time constraints.
