UPMC Altoona is looking for a casual Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant to work on 7E Neurology.
*Candidates will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on experience & education (Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician)*
Patient Care and Support
Assist with routine patient care, including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients. Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), take vital signs, measure I&O, and apply/reapply telemetry monitors. Provide simple dressings, perform bladder scans, collect specimens, and manage “ticket to ride.” Follow safety protocols for HAC & PSI prevention (e.g., TEDs/SCDs), and manage restraint placement/removal.Advanced Skills (As Needed)
Achieve and maintain competency in one or more of the following: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia recognition, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping/removal.Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with team members to support departmental projects and quality initiatives. Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with other departments. Build professional, respectful relationships with colleagues and patients, supporting unit activities (e.g., answering call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients). Actively receive feedback, communicate learning needs, and participate in self-review and performance improvement.Patient Care Assistance
Assist with patient procedures, therapies, and daily living activities. Provide patient education under the RN’s direction and report any changes in patient status. Monitor and remove patient restraints as per protocol, when necessary.Compliance and Documentation
Strictly adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including safety, infection control, and standard precautions. Document patient care in the medical record according to established procedures. Complete assigned tasks in a timely, productive manner, including department clerical duties.Additional Responsibilities
