PhlebotomistJob Description The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination procedures. + Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures. + Properly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) in a clear and courteous manner. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. + Ensure 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts. + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. + Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED. Work Environment The position is onsite in the lab, working with another phlebotomist. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
