Job Title: Phlebotomist I
Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various tasks, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring the proper explanation of the venipuncture process to patients.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and label specimens accurately.Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.Decontaminate and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes and label them accurately.Follow procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of relevant experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with phlebotomy techniques, including blood draw and venipuncture.Medical knowledge related to specimen collection and handling.Work Environment

The position operates during the first shift, 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and every third Saturday. Interviews are conducted on-site from Tuesday to Thursday. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring adherence to safety regulations and efficient handling of specimen collection and transport procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
