This role involves coordinating staff schedules, managing resources, and implementing training programs that maintain high levels of competency among phlebotomists. By fostering a supportive and professional environment, the supervisor ensures that patients receive quality care during the blood draw process, while also maintaining the integrity of specimens for accurate laboratory analysis. Through effective leadership, the Phlebotomy Supervisor plays an integral role in facilitating smoot laboratory operations and enhancing patient satisfaction. *Reports to:*Director of Laboratory Services** *Responsibilities of the Position* Oversee the daily operations of the phlebotomy department, ensuring that blood collection processes are conducted efficiently, safely, and in compliance with healthcare standards. Train and mentor new phlebotomy staff on proper blood collection techniques. Coordinate staff schedules, manage time off requests, and ensure adequate coverage to meet patient demand. Perform quality control checks on equipment and supplies, ordering replacements as necessary to maintain inventory levels. Implement and enforce healthcare regulations and laboratory policies to comply with state and federal laws. Address patient complaints and concerns, facilitating smooth laboratory operations and resolving issues to maintain high levels of patient satisfaction and trust. Analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement in phlebotomy practices and patient care. Coordinate with other laboratory supervisors/coordinators and healthcare professionals to streamline specimen processing and reporting. Collect and process human samples, such as blood and urine specimens, for testing in the laboratory, according to specimen collection and processing protocols. Performing EKG testing as well as processing reports in Cardiopacs and One Content. Serve as a resource for resolving phlebotomy related problems. Maintains and monitors materials to ensure adequate inventory of supplies. Assists with writing procedures and updating phlebotomy manual and document control. Assesses competency of phlebotomists. Maintains the safety of the phlebotomy environment to comply with safety regulations. Participates in the development and monitoring of pre-analytical quality indicators, and quality assurance procedures that comply with regulatory standards. Monitors workflow and makes appropriate changes to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of the phlebotomy team. Verifies patient and specimen identification with two identifiers before performing any procedure. Obtains urine specimens, label, and prepares for lab analysis. Collects drug screens according to the Chain of Custody/Breath Alcohol Guidelines and procedures in Policy Stat. *Minimum Education* High school diploma or equivalent is required. *Certifications/Licenses* Phlebotomycertification is required upon hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire. Phlebotomy certificate or obtain within 90 days of hire or eligible for certification with more than one year experience in phlebotomy or person with leadership experience and several months phlebotomy experience. *Required Skills* Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Maria Parham Health.
