The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for a wide variety of buildings that include public, municipal, private, and Federal project types across the region and globally. With a team of experienced staff in specific market sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources facilities, we provide engineering excellence for our clients. The HDR BES group in New Jersey is looking for aPlumbing Engineer/Designerto join our team.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Plumbing Engineer/Designer, we'll count on you to:
Support and lead the plumbing, medical gas, and laboratory gas portions of complex projects including hospitals, research facilities, data centers, and other facility typesIndependently evaluate, select, and apply standard and advanced engineering techniques and procedures to make decisions on a broad range of plumbing design issuesSupport and lead design of plumbing systems including domestic cold water, domestic hot water, sanitary drainage and vent systems, storm drainage systems, medical gas, laboratory gas, pumping systems, water treatment, reclaimed water, and natural gas distribution systemsTake responsibility for drawings and specifications, meeting schedules and budgets, and directing assigned staffMeet with clients and contractorsInterpret engineering data for designers and draftersCheck the drawings on a continuing basis to ensure accuracy and completeness and oversee deliverables to clients for quality controlMentor and develop the skills of designers and draftersMonitor the schedule and budgets for projectsPerform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projectsReview and summarize applicable codes and for inclusion in the project basis of design, drawings, and specificationsCoordinate plumbing work with other disciplines and consultantsReview shop drawings and answer requests for informationPrepare periodic project status reports for review by the Project Manager and the Department DirectorAssist with writing project specifications as required for the plumbing scope of workVisit project sites as requested or as contractually required to monitor construction progress and resolve issues in the fieldPerform other duties as neededPreferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasisEngineer in Training (EIT) certificateCandidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experienceExperience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not requiredPrevious experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firmPreference given to local candidates#LI-JC7
Required QualificationsBachelor in Mechanical Engineering Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software) An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
