Nelson Mullins, an Am Law 100 Law Firm, is seeking a forward-thinking Practice Innovation Consultant to join our team in Columbia, South Carolina or Charlotte, North Carolina. In this role, you will work closely with attorneys to identify, evaluate, implement, and market cutting-edge AI tools and workflow strategies that enhance the firm's discovery processes. Your expertise will drive the adoption of technology solutions that streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and reduce costs for both the firm and its clients. A Day in the LifeAs a Practice Innovation Consultant, you will play a key role in the following functions:
Collaborate with legal teams and technologists analyzing pain points and assessing current workflows to identify how potential innovations can align with the firm’s strategic goalsBe a subject matter expert in AI and Legal Technology by continuously researching, evaluating, and recommending emerging technologies to enhance our discovery process.Drive the procurement process, maintain key vendor relationships, and integrate AI tools and solutions into the firm’s practice with minimal oversightManage the full life cycle of AI solutions from identification and design to company adoption and continuous improvement.Work directly with attorneys to ensure workflows are optimized to consistently meet expectationsDesign and oversee pilot groups from start to finish, clearly defining objectives, scope, timeline, budget, and success criteria for potential AI toolsProvide support to pilot groups, driving continuous improvement by troubleshooting issues, analyzing feedback, and making recommendations.Collaborate with attorneys and firm management to develop pricing models for clients that reflect the efficiencies gained through AI-driven discovery processes, helping the firm remain competitive and profitableContinuously assess the effectiveness of AI tools and workflows post-implementation by gathering feedback from attorneys and clients and identifying areas for further enhancement to ensure the firm remains at the forefront of innovation.Promote a culture of innovation within the firm by sharing insights, best practices, and identifying opportunities for externally marketing the firm’s technological advancements

We Know YouYou have at least 5 years of experience at a law firm in legal practice process improvement and automation, legal technology, e-discovery, or consulting. Strong background in implementing AI tools in legal discovery or document review processes is highly desirable. Bachelor's degree is required and a JD or LLM is preferred.
