President of the Medical Group

Summary

The Northern Light Health Medical Group is a multi-specialty, state-wide medical group of approximately 1200 employed providers (physicians and advanced practice providers) supporting the clinical and strategic programs of Northern Light Health. The President of the Medical Group is a high-level leadership role that combines medical expertise with business management skills. The President together with the administrative dyad, the SVP of the Medical Group, provides operational oversight, strategic planning and financial management of the medical group. The President is also responsible for ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice, patient safety, and medical integrity working collaboratively with the NLH CMO/CQO. The Senior Physician Executives at each member organization report to the Medical Group President in a matrixed reporting relationship.

The MG President and the SVP of the medical group work with the local SPE’s, the local VPs of Provider Services, and the member organization’s executive team to manage and oversee all NLH employed clinical practitioners to assure that system goals are attained. These goals include high quality clinical care, excellent patient experience, high functioning teams, patient access to care, and solid financial performance. The MG President will develop and implement long term strategies for the medical group to include efforts to become a fully integrated medical group. The Medical Group President will lead the development and success of clinical service lines.

The MG President position is based out of NLH Corporate location, in Brewer, Maine.

Position Summary Details

The MG President will build a cohesive, high-performing medical group that is focused on service excellence, patient centered care and continuous improvement. The MG President will lead efforts toward a single fully integrated NLH medical group, fostering collaboration across disciplines and locations. Additionally, this position will lead the strategic development, implementation, and success of clinical service lines.

Responsibilities

•Ensure high-quality clinical care, patient safety, and patient experience across the health system.

•Collaborate with the CMO/CQO to align clinical and operational priorities across service lines and care settings.

•Develop, implement, and maintain medical group policies and procedures that support consistency and compliance.

•Fostering a culture that is supportive of physicians and APP’s, fostering a positive and productive work environment while supporting their professional development.

•Lead recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies for system employed clinical providers.

•Oversee provider compensation models aligned with organizational goals.

•Oversight of provider employment contracts and professional services agreements.

•Make strategic and operational decisions regarding the provision of clinical services and provider deployment across the system.

•Collaborate with the SVP, Medical group to direct practice management operations

•Develop & oversee the medical group budget, expense management, and revenue generation.

•Identifying and pursuing opportunities for growth, expansion, and market penetration.

•Monitor and drive the financial performance of the medical group, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

•Lead the development, implementation, and growth of clinical service lines aligned with system priorities.

•Improve patient access to care through strategic planning.

•Leads the integration of providers, practices, and services to develop successful clinical service lines.

•Ensuring the medical group adheres to all applicable laws, regulation, and ethical standards.

•Represents NLH with key affiliates in numerous forums including committees, boards, and community activities.

Report to:Northern Light Health CEO

Reports to the MG president: Local SPE’s (in matrix), Service Line Physician leaders

Credentials

MD or DO

Licensed as a physician in the state of Maine.

Education

An M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution.

An advanced degree in healthcare or business-related field is highly desirable.

Experience

8+ years of leadership experience required

Strong understanding of financial management, operations, and business strategies is required.

Ability to effectively communicate with physicians, APP’s, staff, and other stakeholders is essential.
