Greendale is one of Catalent’s gummy technology development and manufacturing facilities in North America. The site manufactures organic and vegan-based nutraceuticals via confection to enhance wellness for all consumers.  Simply put – we make healthy gummies. Within the Catalent network, we offer a broad range of integrated formulation and analytical services to solve difficult development and manufacturing challenges.

The Production Manager will ensure the production requirements are fully achieved on time and in full compliance for assigned areas across a multiple shift, multi facility operation in a union environment. Ensures employee safety, product quality, proper sanitation, cost, and environmental needs will fully meet all legal and other company requirements and standards.  This will be achieved by properly managing the teams, driving continuous improvement, empowering people, to motivate and develop their capability.  Leadership of people includes communicating the vision & mission to gain the understanding & commitment of the people to achieve the objectives.  Development of people through being a team builder with ability to recognize and develop the potential of all the production people. Proactive cooperation with other plant & company departments to ensure that their area and people are fully aligned with the organization.  Modeling the way for others by practicing what is preached to create and maintain a workplace culture that engages and motives employees at all levels.  Focusing on results through setting ambitious objectives and taking initiative to find ways to reach and exceed them. The Production Manager is a member of the Food Safety and Quality Team. Comply with SQF Level III, Food Safety Plan (HACCP), Food Quality Plan (FQP) standards and cGMP.  

The Role

Oversee and direct the planning and execution of daily production activity 

Direct and manage the operations to improve performance through continuous improvement methodology and problem analysis to reduce unscheduled downtime, minor equipment stops, breakdowns, process upsets, material quality losses

Analyze, report and complete daily production reports, gap analysis, continuous improvement initiatives

Supports the development and implementation of financial and non-financial objectives for the facility including the annual budget, financial forecasts and operating plans

Accountable for the department budget 

Utilizes data to facilitate the timely, accurate interpretation, and reporting of performance, quality, and safety data

Schedule, train, and mentor crew so that they can produce at maximum efficiency

Provide timely feedback and coaching to individuals and teams in order to develop them to their full potential and to achieve objectives. Ensure succession plans and development - coaching of direct reports (where applicable) including development of specific training 

Ensure adequate staffing, direction and corrective action 

Responsible for driving issues to root cause and developing a zero-loss mentality 

Other duties assigned

The Candidate

Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Business-related field with 5+ years’ experience in the confectionery, food, pharmaceutical, or consumer packaged goods industry preferred. HS Diploma or GED required with 10+ years of experience.

5+ years’ experience leading a multi-discipline team in an environment requiring a high degree of collaboration required

Strong analytical/problem solving/process improvement skills 

Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power-Point and other report writing tools 

Previous ERP knowledge preferred

Continuous improvement and/or Lean/Six Sigma experience is preferred

Strong foundation in interpersonal communication concepts, specifically, written, oral, presentation, listening, and facilitation skills

Knowledge of machinery operations and equipment 

Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness with ability to improve and promote quality and safety 

Physical demands of this position include various strenuous activities including working long hours (seasonally), standing, walking, reaching, climbing, lifting/moving up to 35 pounds.
